Jewish Heritage Programs (JHP) has been a leader in peer-to-peer campus programming for over thirty years. JHP inspires students to engage meaningfully with Jewish life, celebrate Jewish pride and tradition, and recognize their ability to positively impact the world. Our work is grounded in four pillars: Social Engagement, Mentoring, Community Service, and Judaic Content/Enrichment.
Founded in 1993 at the University of Pennsylvania, JHP maintains an active and vibrant presence at Penn and supports chapters on six additional campuses across the United States.
Position SummaryReporting to the Chief Operating Officer (COO), the Engagement Fellow is a core member of JHP’s professional team, with a primary focus on working directly with undergraduate students at the University of Pennsylvania while also supporting JHP campuses nationally. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys being on campus, building authentic relationships with students, and translating big-picture ideas into well-executed programs.
The Engagement Fellow serves as a thought partner to the Executive Director, COO, and broader staff on undergraduate engagement and programming. The Fellow will lead the planning and implementation of initiatives that advance JHP’s mission by creating meaningful opportunities for Jewish engagement, identifying and cultivating emerging student leaders, and strengthening JHP’s presence within higher education.
In this role, the Engagement Fellow will also have the opportunity to deepen their own Jewish learning, leadership skills, and professional network.
Location & Work EnvironmentThis position is based in Philadelphia, PA, and candidates must live in Philadelphia or the surrounding area. JHP’s main office is located in the University City neighborhood, adjacent to the University of Pennsylvania.
The Engagement Fellow is expected to be physically present at the University of Pennsylvania at least three days per week to meet with students, attend campus programs, and build strong, consistent relationships. Additional on-site time may be required for events and peak programming periods. Occasional travel to New York City is also required.
Major Responsibilities- Build one-on-one relationships with Jewish undergraduate students at the University of Pennsylvania by meeting them where they live, study, and socialize, using creative and relational engagement strategies.
- Recruit, support, and advise student leaders; coordinate student boards and ensure leadership responsibilities are clearly defined and fulfilled.
- Plan, organize, and execute high-quality campus programming and activities in alignment with JHP’s mission, calendar, and budget, with appropriate approval from the Executive Director and COO.
- Engage, empower, and mentor student leaders as they design initiatives and creatively engage their peers.
- Collaborate with JHP staff and student leaders to plan, market, and implement the annual calendar of engagement opportunities.
- Manage meetings and events from start to finish, including logistics such as catering, supplies, timelines, and budget oversight.
- Oversee and coordinate Israel engagement initiatives.
- Lead recruitment efforts for, and staff, an annual Birthright Israel trip.
- Cultivate relationships with campus partners, including the Chabad Rabbis and Rebbetzins, and serve as a connector between students, JHP leadership, and the broader Jewish campus ecosystem.
- Support and strengthen relationships with JHP alumni, particularly those involved in mentoring and student-facing programs.
- Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills, with the ability to connect authentically with a wide range of undergraduate students.

- Adaptable and flexible, especially around non-typical business hours.
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- 0–2 years of professional work experience (recent graduates are encouraged to apply).
- Strong logistical and organizational skills.
- Entrepreneurial mindset and willingness to take initiative.
- Confidence in engaging students, leading programs, and asking thoughtful questions.
- Passion for Judaism and Israel.
- Knowledge of Jewish community, culture, heritage, and traditions.
- JHP is an independent organization that works closely with Chabad Houses; candidates must be comfortable working collaboratively with Chabad.
