Full job description
JFSA of Cleveland is celebrating 150 years as a leading non-profit healthcare Agency serving Northeast Ohioans. Our Top Places to Work Agency has an immediate opening for a part-time Psychiatrist, MD, to further the Agency’s mission by ensuring the delivery of excellent psychiatric assessment, medication, and monitoring of clients’ functioning. The Psychiatrist will work with the community support program staff on the treatment, planning, and service to clients. To serve as the Medical Director for Behavioral Health Services and participate in hiring and supervising staff psychiatrists, and consulting psychiatrists.
This position is: Part-time (16 - 48 hours a month), Office-Based, Hourly
Supervision Exercised
- Supervision of all part-time or contract psychiatry staff
- Available for medical supervision/consultation with nursing staff
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Sees clients, makes diagnoses, prescribes medication, and monitors clients’ use of and response to medication.
- Consults with assigned primary staff individually or in staff groups by collecting and conveying information about the clients.
- Monitors clients’ functioning through regular contacts or through reports by primary staff and facilitates/participates in quarterly review of service plans and goals.
- Make written diagnoses based on the current diagnostic and statistical manual of mental disorders.
- Provides clinical information for disability determination, insurance companies, and other entities or employers.
- Available by phone for consultation regarding psychiatric emergencies of clients.
- Assures appropriate documentation of all the above, including a complete client history, mental status, assessment of danger to self or others, functional impairments, and strengths.
- Documents and operates effectively within the Agency’s Electronic Health Record.
- Prescribes appropriate medications for physical and mental health issues, demonstrating knowledge of drug action, interaction, and reactions.
- Prescribes appropriate pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatment modalities; may perform technical skills and administer medications in a safe and efficient manner.
- Functions independently to perform age-appropriate history and physicals for complex acute, critical, and chronically ill clients.
- Orders and interprets diagnostic and therapeutic tests relative to the patient’s age-specific needs.
- Provides education and consultation to the Agency care management staff to ensure coordination of care and improved health outcomes.
- Participates in hiring staff psychiatrists and supervises them in the performance of all the above responsibilities.
- Ensures that Agency practice meets the highest standards of all funding and accrediting bodies for service delivery and documentation.
- Demonstrates awareness of, follows all safety policies and procedures, and adheres to all recommended safe work practices. Also contributes to the control of hazards in specified areas of responsibility.
- Perform other duties or special projects as required or as assigned.
Educational/Training Requirements: Advanced medical training in the specialty of psychiatry.
Experience/Licenses/Certifications
- Must have practiced psychiatry for a minimum of two years.
- Experience working with Adults with Developmental Disabilities is a plus.
- License as a Doctor of Medicine by the Ohio State Medical Board and membership in good standing.
- Certification in the specialty of psychiatry.
- Valid DEA license, evidence of appropriate renewals for prescription writing authority, and evidence of required Continuing Medical Education credit in accordance with the State of Ohio Medical guidelines.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Excellent ability to quickly develop a working relationship with clients.
- Demonstrated mastery of medical concepts and principles and ability to identify and use appropriate concepts and principles from related sciences, e.g. behavioral sciences and biological sciences.
- Excellent teaching/supervision skills with staff
- Outstanding clinical judgment about a wide range of mental illnesses and personality disorders.
- Ability to be flexible and innovative in treatment planning.
- Ability to consider the whole system of services to clients and the role of medication somatic service within it.
- Adheres to the highest standard of ethical integrity with regard to, but not limited to, confidentiality, HIPAA, etc.
