Summary:
The Pantry Driver travels throughout the St. Louis region to collect and distribute food for members of the community, affected by food insecurity. The Pantry Driver handles delivery of food to clients, collects and delivers food to the food pantry from other businesses and community locations, and organizes the warehouse and sorting areas for the food pantry.
Essential Functions:
- Picks up large quantities of food from grocery stores, food vendors, Operation Food Search, St. Louis Area Food Bank, congregations, and other community locations.
- Stores food products in the warehouse, coolers, and freezers, as directed.
- Operates forklift and pallet jack in support of collection, storage, and delivery of food.
- Delivers food to homebound clients.
- Maintains cleanliness and recycling in the warehouse, sorting area, parking lot, and outside trash area.
- Assists with tasks in the pantry and warehouse related to efficient distribution of food to pantry guests.
- Ensures cleanliness of vans and informs supervisor when maintenance issue arises.
- Removes trash and breaks down boxes for recycling.
- Provides verbal feedback on activities and concerns to the Procurement Coordinator/Lead Driver and Pantry Manager.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Demonstrates teamwork and support of the JFS mission and values.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned.
- Complies with all company policies and standards.

Education: High School diploma or GED

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to follow written instructions and schedule.
- Ability to drive food pantry vans in all weather, on highways, and in narrow city streets.
- Ability to communicate effectively with product donors, vendors, and clients.
- Strong English communication skills and the ability to work effectively with all stakeholders.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of client information.
- Ability to use office equipment, computers and common software programs.
Licenses, Certifications and Professional Affiliations:
Class E Driver’s license and Forklift Certification
Supervisory Responsibilities: N/A
Work Environment:
Work is typically performed in an inside warehouse/food pantry setting, in a vehicle, or at various community locations. Occasional evening and weekend hours may be required.
Physical Demands:
This position requires an above average amount of physical effort including standing, lifting, and carrying light to moderately heavy products or equipment, typically 30-50 pounds, but at times can exceed 70 pounds.
Travel:
This position requires significant time driving to local organizations, congregations, residences, and other locations as necessary. The position travels to all areas within the Greater St. Louis and surrounding areas and counties. May require making food deliveries in inclement weather.
