POSITION SUMMARY
The Volunteer Services Assistant #2 will help ensure that JFCS East Bay’s volunteer programs run efficiently and smoothly. The Volunteer Services department works as a cohesive team to advance the department’s goals; however, each team member has specific programs they are primarily responsible for. Current programs under this portfolio include in-kind donations (including collection drives), bicycle donations, ESL tutoring and language classes, refugee client volunteer support, assisting with the annual Art of Living Gala and other agency events, hosted housing, and managing our affordable housing research program.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist with the smooth operation of Volunteer Services programs.
- Recruit, train, and onboard new volunteers, then assign them tasks based on their interests.
- Coordinate in-kind donations program, including screening items, managing volunteers, overseeing logistics, and tracking goods received.
- Manage bike donation program, including volunteer support and community partners.
- Assist with coordination of community collection drives of in-kind items, such as diapers, school backpacks, toiletries, cleaning supplies, and so on.
- Meet donors at off-site storage unit and Concord office for in-kind donation drop offs.
- Assist with Day of Service projects and community outreach programs.
- Coordinate volunteers for annual Art of Living Gala and assist with planning agency activities, including Volunteer Appreciation event, fundraising programs, and other events as needed.
- Manage Hosted Housing program, including finding and vetting potential new housing hosts and acting as a liaison between clients and hosts.
- Oversee affordable housing research program, managing a team of volunteers to produce monthly lists of available affordable housing.
- Develop and launch additional volunteer programs as needs arise.
- Assist Volunteer Services Manager with other tasks as needed.
REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Strong organizational abilities, and ability to keep updated, well-organized tracking system and files.
- Experience with tracking and reporting data.
- Initiative and ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Well-developed verbal and written skills.
- Flexibility with schedule, including some evening and weekend work.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with people of all ages.
- Ability to work effectively and respectfully with a diverse spectrum of individuals and institutions.
- Clean DMV record, current driver’s license, and car required.
- Ability to lift and carry 10 pounds.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s Degree and at least 1 year of related experience in nonprofit or social service agencies.
- A demonstrated commitment to antiracism, diversity and inclusion; valuing a diversity of perspectives and encouraging contributions by all team members.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office suite of programs, including Teams.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
The compensation for this position will range from $31-$34 per hour based on experience.
