POSITION SUMMARY

JewishColumbus believes that effective security requires a holistic approach—balancing strong community relationships with strategic preparation to reduce risk and ensure effective crisis response. The Security Operations Center (SOC) Operator supports the day-to-day operations of the SOC, providing continuous monitoring and response capabilities across JewishColumbus, partner locations, and affiliated community organizations.

This position plays a critical role in protecting Jewish leaders, employees, congregants, and organizational assets in a community facing evolving security threats and documented hate-related incidents. The SOC Operator is responsible for real-time monitoring of security systems, triaging incidents, and coordinating response efforts in alignment with established protocols. This role requires sound judgment, strong attention to detail, and the ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, high-threat environment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Monitor security systems in real time, including CCTV surveillance, alarm systems (video alarms, door alarms, duress alarms), and access control technologies to ensure continuous situational awareness.
• Receive, assess, and triage incoming alerts, alarms, calls, and notifications; determine appropriate response actions based on established protocols and escalation procedures.
• Dispatch security personnel, law enforcement, fire, and emergency medical services via telephone, radio, or software platforms as required.
• Escalate incidents to the SOC Lead and leadership based on severity thresholds and organizational guidelines.
• Maintain accurate, detailed records of incidents, communications, and actions taken within incident management systems (Ontic or similar platforms preferred).
• Monitor threat intelligence platforms as well as open-source and social media channels to identify potential risks and emerging threats.
• Support coordinated response efforts during incidents, including medical emergencies, active threats, protests, and other life-safety events.
• Communicate clearly and professionally with internal stakeholders, partner organizations, and external agencies during routine operations and emergencies.
• Operate and assist in troubleshooting security systems, including video surveillance (Verkada), access control systems, and alarm monitoring platforms.
• Collaborate with partner security personnel and organizational stakeholders to support security operations and resolve system or operational issues.
• Maintain strict confidentiality of sensitive information, including incident details, investigations, and personnel matters.
• Participate in training sessions, drills, and exercises to maintain operational readiness and familiarity with SOC procedures and playbooks.
• Uphold JewishColumbus’ mission by contributing to a secure, welcoming environment through a strong customer service orientation.
• Perform effectively in a 24/7 operational environment, including nights, weekends, and holidays, with readiness to respond to high-intensity situations.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

• High school diploma required; associate or bachelor’s degree preferred. Relevant experience may be a substitute for formal education.
• 2–5 years of experience in security operations, dispatch, law enforcement, military, or a related field.
• Experience in real-time monitoring, incident response, or emergency communications environments preferred.
• Familiarity with security systems, including CCTV, access control, and alarm monitoring platforms.
• Ability to quickly assess information and make sound decisions under pressure.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including clear and accurate incident documentation.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
• Proficiency in computer applications, including Microsoft Office and web-based systems.
• Valid Ohio driver’s license and ability to meet applicable background and clearance requirements.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including overnight, weekend, and holiday shifts.
