POSITION OVERVIEW
The Director of Marketing is the right hand to the Chief Marketing and Communications Officer. This working leader oversees a marketing team, providing mentorship, supervision, and guidance to develop innovative storytelling, digital strategies, and integrated campaigns that amplify JewishColumbus’ mission. This individual is an accomplished marketer with experience running day-to-day operations in a busy, fast-paced Marketing / Comms Dept. They should have a creative mindset, strong writing skills, and experience in a supervisory role with the confidence to motivate others to achieve organizational goals.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Day-to-Day Management
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of team workflows and project management to ensure that all projects stay on course and meet deadlines while maximizing efficiency, accountability, and results-driven performance.
- Supervise three team members (Digital Marketing Manager, Marketing Manager, and Marketing Coordinator)
- Manage the production, prioritization, and shepherding of all marketing projects.
- Point person for addressing daily issues that require immediate attention while building/maintaining internal client relationships with all departments within the organization.
- Drive innovation and thought leadership within Marketing, implementing best practices that enhance engagement and community impact.
- Ensure brand consistency across all communications and marketing materials.
- Develop the marketing budget in partnership with the CMO and manage the budget, ensuring that lines stay on track.
- Oversee invoice approvals and ensure a budget-conscious mindset.
- Manage vendor relationships, ensuring quality and cost-effectiveness in marketing materials and production.
- Implement project management best practices, ensuring all marketing initiatives are executed on time and with excellence.
- Oversee marketing technology and platforms, ensuring the organization is leveraging cutting-edge tools for maximum impact.
Digital Strategy & Oversight
- Lead strategy and oversight of JewishColumbus’ digital marketing efforts including communications, content strategy, and workplans for emails, website, e-philanthropy, and social media as well as SEO strategies, and paid media efforts.
- Ensure that digital reporting is consistently presented and the info is used to make informed pivots.
Portfolio Oversight
• In addition to day-to-day management of all marketing projects, the marketing director will hold their own portfolio responsible for overseeing, planning, and executing marketing efforts for the Financial Resource Department, including Campaign, Women’s Philanthropy, and Endowment.
Multi-Channel Content Strategy
- Oversee content strategy, ensuring storytelling is compelling, mission-driven, and tailored to diverse audiences.
- Drive data-informed decision-making by analyzing marketing performance metrics and optimizing strategies accordingly.
- Partner with the CMO to identify and implement creative marketing tactics that garner more attention for the organization.
Event Marketing & Stakeholder Engagement
- Oversee event marketing to ensure that the marketing materials are created based on a strategic approach to messaging impact during an event as well as ensuring that all materials are delivered accurately and on time.
- Work closely with CMO, executive leadership, and development teams to align marketing initiatives with fundraising and donor engagement goals.
- Serve as a professional presence at major events, managing branding, messaging, and marketing execution.
CRITICAL COMPETENCIES + SKILLS
- Bachelor's degree in marketing, Communications, Public Relations, or a related field.
- 5+ years of marketing leadership experience, with a proven track record of day-to-day department management with a heavy focus on production.
- Nonprofit marketing; mission-driven messaging.
- Familiarity with Jewish culture, values, traditions, and history.
- Expertise in strategic planning, brand positioning, and high-level marketing execution within a nonprofit or philanthropic environment.
- Ability to successfully navigate and manage competing priorities and high-pressure deadlines.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.

- Proven ability to oversee projects from concept through layout, finished art, and production phases to completion.
- Proficient in digital marketing, content strategy, SEO, and social media innovation.
- Experience overseeing multi-channel campaigns across digital, print, social, and traditional media.
- Ability to analyze data and translate insights into actionable marketing strategies.
- Superior storytelling, writing, and communication skills, with the ability to craft compelling narratives for diverse audiences.
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, WordPress, Constant Contact, Canva, Asana, and social media platforms. Working knowledge of HTML.
- Experience managing vendor relationships, marketing budgets, and project workflows.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to manage complex projects, competing priorities, and tight deadlines.
- Basic graphic design skills for minor content creation needs.
- Collaborative, results-driven mindset with a passion for mission-driven marketing.
- Ability to successfully navigate and manage competing priorities and high-pressure deadlines.
WORK ENVIRONMENT + SCHEDULE
- Hybrid work environment, with on-site presence required Tuesday through Thursday.
- Evening and weekend availability required for key events.
- Some travel may be necessary for venue site visits, partner meetings, or special programs and professional development.
