The Jewish Social Justice Roundtable (“Roundtable” or “JSJR”), a fiscally sponsored project of Bend the Arc: A Jewish Partnership for Justice (“Bend the Arc”), is looking to hire a Development Manager who will work directly with Abby Levine, the Roundtable’s executive director, in most aspects of the fundraising work. In addition, the Development Manager will help maintain the Roundtable's communications through our email listservs and website.
The Jewish Social Justice Roundtable is a network of 76 Jewish organizations that strengthens and aligns the Jewish social justice field in order to make justice a core expression of Jewish life and help create an equitable world. Most of the Roundtable’s funding comes from foundations.
Key Responsibilities
Development
- Manage timelines and deadlines for submitting grant proposals and reports to foundations
- Work with JSJR’s ED and strategic writing consultant to write, edit, and submit grant proposals and reports for foundations that fund or might fund the Roundtable
- Compile and submit relevant attachments to grant proposals and reports
- Stay informed and connected with the JSJR team in order to inform content of grant proposals and reports
- Communicate with the ED, JSJR staff, and full network in consistent, positive ways in order to request and collect needed information
- Research new funding prospects
- Provide research, storytelling skills and thought partnership to the ED for funder cultivation
- Draft occasional email newsletters for donors
Manage JSJR Data & Communications
- Maintain key systems to enable communications among the JSJR network Compile monthly Jobs roundup and post on the JSJR website Update JSJR website and email listserves
- Create, track, and follow up on paperwork for pass-through grants to the network
- Maintain systems for internal record keeping of JSJR activities to enable reporting for grant reports
Required Skills and Qualifications
Highly organized with strong attention to detail and accuracy. Ability to track the multiple aspects of planning to meet a large number of deadlines at one time; efficient; and excellent time management and organization skills. Follow through is essential in a lean operation like the Roundtable. Ensuring balls don’t get dropped by creating and updating effective timelines and deadlines for yourself and anyone whose input is needed is critical. You bring experience managing the details of the work of a high-functioning team and consultants.
Strong communication skills, especially in writing and also verbally. We expect communications and interactions, whether with our funders, staff, organizations, or others, to be warm and professional.
Strong interpersonal skills and comfortable in a fluid professional environment. We are a diverse staff and network with a broad set of stakeholders. We approach our work with a consistent positive attitude, assuming good intentions and always looking to build relationships. You bring a problem-solving approach.
In addition, the following skills and experiences are preferred:
- A commitment to social justice. Prior Jewish social justice organizational work (paid or volunteer) and general knowledge of our field (see here) is a plus but not required
- 3-5 years experience with fundraising-related writing and cultivation of foundations and their program officers, or relevant experience writing professionally on deadline
- Experience with racial equity principles and analysis is a plus
- Experience with the Google suite and Zoom

This role requires someone to sit in a stationary position for prolonged periods of time and constantly operate a computer, video platforms, and other office machinery such as copy machines, computer printers, and video and voice telecommunications. The person in this position must be able to identify, discern, and communicate consistently, and collect and analyze information. There is potential national travel depending on the applicant’s location and in accordance with organizational guidelines on travel due to COVID-19.
Compensation and Hours
This is a full-time, exempt position. The annual salary range is $55,000 - 70,000 annually and appropriate to experience, and includes a comprehensive benefits package:
- Medical, dental and vision benefits fully paid for by JSJR for individual coverage and generous employer contribution of 80% toward monthly premiums for dependent and family coverage;
- Long and short term disability benefits fully paid for by JSJR;
- Paid time off including:
- 15 vacation days during your first three years with an increase to 20 vacation days in your fourth year
- 12 sick days per year
- 23 paid holidays each year
- Caregiving / Personal Leave of Absence policy with a Paid Leave Benefit that covers up to 12 paid weeks after 90 days on staff
- Fully paid Sabbatical of up to 12 weeks for long-term employees;

Full-time Roundtable staff work tend to work traditional hours on Monday-Friday with flexibility as each individual needs from week to week.
The position requires occasional travel for meetings, mostly to East Coast or other major cities, and occasional weeknight commitments.
