Role Overview:
Jewish News Syndicate (JNS), the fastest-growing news agency covering Israel and the Jewish world, is seeking a Chief Operations Officer to join our headquarters in Jerusalem. JNS is rapidly expanding, with 40+ full-time staff across the US and Israel, and growing its news coverage in multiple languages. We’re looking for someone who can drive strategic support, assist the CEO in providing leadership and oversight for the organization’s day-to-day functions and staff, handle tasks that require management and technical expertise, implementing strategic initiatives, and managing organization-wide projects.
The Chief Operations Officer will be part manager, part problem solver, and part all-round strategic partner to implement strategy to meet organization goals and advance our mission. The role will have both internal and external-facing responsibilities, ranging from supporting and facilitating the needs of the content, marketing, fundraising and administrative departments, day-to-day management and professional growth of staff members, project management including initiatives and events, issue solving and prioritization, communications, administrative tasks.
The ideal candidate will have experience managing large teams across multiple departments and be mission and results-driven, resourceful, action-oriented,
punctual, a strong team-player with the ability to work independently, and comfortable working in a dynamic and fast-paced organization. We’re looking for someone who can handle complex situations and multiple responsibilities simultaneously, mixing long-term projects with the urgency of immediate demands.
The Chief Operations Officer will work closely with and report directly to the CEO. The position is based in Jerusalem, where hybrid staff work in person twice per week, while other team members work remotely.
What You’ll Be Doing:
- Executive project management: act on the authority of the CEO to oversee projects that typically require cross-functional collaboration and resource allocation. Providing project planning and management for both departmental projects and initiatives
- Support the CEO’s management of leadership team meetings and management of those members
- Develop JNS’ operating plan, measuring progress against the strategic plan
- Share information and communicate ideas on behalf of the CEO, including handling responses to internal and external issues that arise
- Facilitate communication across departments
- Work to solve organizational problems, mediate disputes, and deal with issues before they bubble up to the CEO
- Monitor and advise on staff expansion, contraction, or reassignment of responsibilities for maximum organizational benefit
- Take regular reports from staff and departments, and take steps to ensure maximum efficiency, harmony and good workflow. Continuously inform the CEO on progress and issues found.
- Represent the CEO with funders, public officials and other partners in person and in writing
What You Have:
- 5+ years of experience in organizational administration, with a proven track record managing small and large teams across various departments, handling complex situations and juggling multiple responsibilities effectively.
- Skilled at balancing long-term projects with urgency of immediate priorities
- Demonstrated experience in dealing with highly confidential information, acting as liaison between the CEO and other constituencies, both internal and external.
- Strong collaborative and relationship skills, with ability to work across all levels of the organization to achieve actionable results
- Mother tongue English with fluent Hebrew
- Team player who is comfortable working in a fast-paced, growing organization that sometimes requires “all hands on deck”, often during “off-hours”
- Highly resonating with JNS’ mission and vision, with a strong understanding of the pro-Israel media landscape (brand positioning, competition, etc.) and American/global Jewish nonprofit organizations
- Knowledge of financial management, strategic planning, and standard HR policies
- Familiar with both the Israeli and American mindset, and navigate divergent cultures
- Excellent interpersonal skills and good sense of humor, possessing a spirit of cooperation and enthusiasm
- Strong attention to detail and well organized with the ability to track and perform a substantial number of tasks independently
- Strong technology skills and comfort with digital platforms and data systems. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint required; and familiarity with Monday.com (or other project management software), Salesforce, Hubspot, and data management systems is preferred
- Master’s degree (an advantage)
