New York Correspondent (NY - remote)
Jewish News Syndicate
Location: New York (Remote work)
Type: full-time
Role Overview:
Jewish News Syndicate (JNS), the fastest-growing news agency covering Israel and the Jewish world, is seeking a New York Correspondent to join our U.S. editorial team. The correspondent will report to the U.S. Bureau News Editor and be responsible for delivering timely, accurate, and compelling news coverage on issues relevant to the Jewish world, U.S. Jewish life, and Israel, with a focus on the New York tri-state area.
The ideal candidate must have a deep understanding of, or at least a strong interest in, local trends impacting the Jewish and pro-Israel communities in the tri-state area. This includes political developments, community affairs, antisemitism, religious life, education, and major cultural events. Candidates must be news savvy, experienced in investigative reporting, and possess strong writing skills, with at least three years of reporting experience.
JNS writers must connect with our mission and have a strong understanding or genuine interest in Israel and the Jewish world. That said, you don’t have to be Jewish to work here (many of our U.S. writers aren’t). What matters most is your ability to cover these topics thoughtfully and accurately.
This is a remote role, but candidate must be based in New York and available to attend events in the tri-state area.
What You’ll Do:
- Report original, daily stories on topics of major importance to the Jewish world, identifying scoops and breaking news when possible (average of 5-7 weekly stories).
- Cover issues relevant to the tri-state Jewish community, including political developments, community affairs, antisemitism, education, campus and Jewish life.
- Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with Jewish communal and New York-based sources to identify stories and solicit expert commentary.
- Attend and report on events, conferences, and other relevant gatherings in the tri-state area, as assigned.
- Undertake investigative stories, as directed.
- Assist with brief news updates on the JNS wire desk, as assigned.
- Travel to and cover major conferences and events, as needed.
- Upload edited articles into the content management system for publication.
- Ensure all work meets JNS’s high journalistic standards, maintaining absolute accuracy and originality.
What You Bring:
- Proven track record of high-level reporting, with prior experience covering the Jewish world being a plus.
- Demonstrated experience writing in a fast-paced newsroom, with adherence to journalistic styles and norms.
- Strong interest in U.S. politics, the U.S.-Israel relationship, and Jewish community affairs.
- News savvy, with a strong interest in tracking developments and identifying emerging stories.
- Strong research skills and the ability to translate complex information into compelling and accessible content.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Knowledge of AP style and journalistic ethics.
- Original writing that upholds the highest journalistic standards, with complete accuracy in all your work.
- Familiarity with content management systems (WordPress a plus).
- A passion for JNS: you’ve read our stories, believe in our mission, and are ready to make an impact through accurate and engaging reporting.
Why Join Us:

Note: One of the questions will ask for a few pitch ideas for original stories. Your pitch will help us get a sense of what stories you’d propose for JNS. Be sure to check our website first to understand our focus and style, and avoid topics we’ve already covered. If we’re interested in your ideas, the next step may involve collaborating on a few paid freelance pieces as part of the hiring process.
