Head of Informal Education - AMHSI

Alexander Muss High School in Israel (AMHSI-JNF) is a pluralistic, academic, study abroad program that strengthens our students' Jewish identity, inspiring them to explore their connection to Israel through formal and experiential educational opportunities. By transforming Israel into a living classroom and offering a robust, integrated curriculum, we aim to develop and foster within our teens a passion for lifelong learning and leadership, giving them the tools and the confidence to impact their communities worldwide.

Position Overview:

As the Head of Informal Education at the Alexander Muss High School in Israel (AMHSI), you will play a vital role in shaping the student experience and fostering a supportive environment within our community. Reporting to the Dean of Students, you will be responsible for hiring, training, and managing the team of counsellors ("madrichim") who support and guide our students during their academic and travel group programs. This leadership position requires a strong blend of organizational, logistical, mentoring, and interpersonal skills to ensure the success and growth of our life changing programs.

Key Responsibilities:

Educational Vision & Program Design

· Design and implement a comprehensive informal education plan aligned with AMHSI's mission and Jewish/Israel education goals.

· Integrate informal learning with the formal curriculum

· Lead experiential programming:

1. Collaborate with madrichim in developing engaging educational and fun activities for students.
2. Create and manage work plans for madrichim, including scheduling vacation days, assigning replacements, and addressing any program-related needs.

Team Leadership & Staff Development

· Recruit, train, and supervise madrichim including Implementing a comprehensive onboarding program for madrichim.

· Provide ongoing training and support to madrichim, ensuring their readiness for all of their program responsibilities.

· Foster a positive team dynamic and assist with team building activities among the madrichim and teachers.

· Conduct regular performance reviews, offering constructive feedback and guidance for improvement.

· Identify high-performing madrichim with potential to contribute to multiple programs and recommend their continued engagement with the school.

Logistics & Program Management

· Ensure smooth integration between academic schedules and informal activities, especially during intensive program days.

· Guide and oversee madrichim in working with internal departments to guarantee that all logistical needs, equipment, and program preparations are handled in advance.

· Provide support and guidance to madrichim in their management of disciplinary issues and student concerns.

· Offer assistance and guidance during emergency situations and provide support to madrichim in handling challenging scenarios.

· Conduct comprehensive program summaries at the conclusion of each program, managing equipment and funds belonging to the school.

· Write program reports summarizing key insights, outcomes, and recommendations for future improvements.

Qualifications & Skills:

· 5+ years of experience in Informal Education

· Academic degree in Education / Informal Education Social Science / Psychology / Social Work or any other related field

· Fluent English and Hebrew language skills.

· Leadership and supervisory experience - must

· Strong ability to work effectively under pressure, handling multiple responsibilities simultaneously.

· Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.

· Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate and collaborate effectively.

· Valid driving license, and readiness to travel or visit groups off-campus as necessary.

· Willingness to work flexible and unusual hours to accommodate program needs.
