Position OverviewThe B Mitzvah & Teen Program Director will oversee all aspects of JKG’s innovative B Mitzvah and Teen Leadership Academy programs, ensuring they provide meaningful, engaging, and high-quality experiences for middle and high school students. This role is responsible for program design, implementation, administration, and community engagement.The B Mitzvah Program is a two-year journey that reimagines the traditional coming-of-age experience, emphasizing Jewish learning, community service, and personal exploration. The director will manage curriculum development, student engagement, and the culminating group B Mitzvah celebration, ensuring the program is inclusive, accessible, and impactful.The Teen Leadership Academy offers students opportunities for mentorship, leadership development, and hands-on teaching experience. The director will facilitate workshops, oversee leadership training, coordinate book club discussions, and support optional peer-led programming and learning grants.This role requires creativity, strong organizational skills, and a passion for empowering Jewish youth to grow as leaders and learners.Job DescriptionThe B Mitzvah & Teen Program Director position is multifaceted. It includes overall program vision; curriculum development and guidance; hiring, developing, and managing the teaching team; event planning; parent communications and engagement; enrollment; and student management. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:Program Development- Hone vision and approach of B Mitzvah and Teen Leadership Academy programs- Work with leadership to refine policies, procedures, and program initiatives- Manage the implementation of JKG’s experiential Jewish and Hebrew curriculum- Solicit and integrate audience feedback- Elevate the community through new programming- Steward relationships with community partners (e.g., JTeen)Team Dynamics & Management- Recruit, hire, train, and onboard teachers, assistant teachers, specialists, and volunteers- Co-plan and run Teacher Orientation; plan and run regular staff meetings and PD- Support teachers with lesson planning and classroom/behavior management- Cultivate a positive, hard-working, supportive staff culture- At times, serve as a teacher as needed- Attend regularly scheduled leadership team meetingsFamily Relationship Management- Go above and beyond for parents (happy emails, regular check-ins, proactive care)- Send weekly program updates to families- Communicate by phone, email, and in person about student experiences- Ensure families are well-supported throughout the B Mitzvah experience- Serve as point of contact for B Mitzvah and Teen Leadership AcademyOperations Management- Address on-site facility issues as needed- Coordinate supply and space needs with the Morningside Afterschool Program Director- Maintain administrative records in ChildPilot (documents, enrollment, attendance, timesheets)- Purchase supplies/snacks and manage inventory- Manage program budget and spending- Security: open/close building; manage access/keycards; direct on-site security personnelDriving Enrollment- Recruit families via emails, open houses, festivals, promotional events, and other strategies- Steward families through enrollment; host coffees/meetings; lead toursCurriculum & Programming- Oversee JKG Judaics and Hebrew curriculum and Year Two Personal Interest Projects (PIPs)- Work with the Director of Education to update and integrate the B Mitzvah curriculum- Maintain curriculum files and ensure lesson quality and readinessSpecial Projects & Events- Plan and execute five community service field trips for the First Year class- Manage Second Year Personal Interest Projects in partnership with teachers and parents- Coordinate event logistics for the JKG B Mitzvah ceremony (venue, presentations, prep, communications)- Attend and help plan special JKG events (Shabbat Potlucks, festivals, tabling, etc.)Miscellaneous- Other special projects, new initiatives, and responsibilities under the B Mitzvah umbrellaCharacteristics of a Successful Candidate- Community builder who fosters strong connections and belonging- Background in Jewish education and Jewish summer camp- Experience with event planning- Meticulous attention to detail; exceptional organizational skills- Collaborative mindset with internal and external stakeholders- Proficient with technology platforms and CRM systems- Strong understanding of traditional Judaism and alignment with JKG’s progressive approachMore Information- Position Type: Regular Full Time, Exempt Employee- Work Hours: Sunday–Thursday- Start Date: May 2025 or as soon as possible- Salary: Salary range for this position begins at $60,000, commensurate with experience and skills + enrollment bonuses (up to $5,000).- Benefits: Health insurance; employer matching retirement fund contribution up to 4%; $500 annual professional development stipend and other PD opportunities; generous paid time off (20 days, your birthday, plus Jewish holidays and Federal holidays).
