Director of Marketing and Communications
Jewish Federation of Greater Vancouver
Marketing & Communications
Canada · Vancouver, BC, Canada
USD 95k-115k / year
About This Role
The JCC is at a transformative moment. A comprehensive marketing strategy—developed with external expertise—is in place and ready to execute. What we need now is a skilled, hands-on marketing professional who can bring that strategy to life.
This is a doing role as much as a directing role. The successful candidate will own execution: building and deploying campaigns, managing digital channels, working within a lean structure, and making every dollar count. You will work closely with program, facilities, development and events staff who will provide the content and context you need—your job is to turn that raw material into compelling communications that reach the right people at the right time.
The JCC is entering a multi-year rebuild and relocation process. The single most important challenge of this role is sustaining member loyalty and engagement through the disruption—and then converting community excitement into new memberships when the new campus opens.
The Core Challenge
Retain members through a period of physical disruption. Build anticipation and drive new membership for the grand opening of the new JCC campus. Do both simultaneously, on a lean budget, through smart segmentation and channel discipline.
What You’ll Do
Execute the Marketing Plan
• Create multi-year marketing and communications timelines to implement the multi-year integrated marketing strategy developed by the JCC’s external consultants, while refining and adapting it as the organization and context evolve.
• Manage campaign timelines, assets, and approvals across all channels—digital, print, email, social, and in-venue
• Work directly in the tools: build emails, schedule posts, update the website, pull analytics, and iterate
• Collaborate with a graphic designer to produce all creative assets within brand standards
Own Member Retention During the Rebuild
• Develop and maintain a segmented communications approach that speaks meaningfully to different member cohorts: long-tenured members, families, seniors, fitness users, program participants, and more
• Design, write and execute incentive and loyalty communications that recognize member commitment and reduce churn during the disruption period
• Ensure members feel informed, valued, and connected to the JCC’s mission throughout construction
Build Toward the Grand Opening
• Develop phased campaigns tied to key milestones: groundbreaking, construction progress, pre-opening membership drives, and the launch itself
• Build community awareness and excitement through storytelling across all channels that reflect the vision of the new centre
• Work with development staff on donor recognition and fundraising communications as needed
Manage Digital Presence & Channels
• Maintain and improve the JCC’s website (WordPress), ensuring content is current and the user experience is strong
• Plan and execute the social media calendar across platforms (Facebook, Instagram, and others), including paid campaigns via Meta Ads Manager
• Manage the email marketing program end-to-end: list segmentation, campaign builds, A/B testing, deliverability, and reporting
• Track and report on key metrics; use data to refine approach and demonstrate ROI
Source Content from Across the Organization
• Partner with program, facilities, and events staff to gather the stories, updates, and details that fuel your content
• Collaborate with the Director of Development to ensure both fundraising and marketing communications have a cohesive narrative
• Translate operational updates into member-facing communications that are clear, engaging, and on-brand
• Review and edit written materials produced by other departments before they go external
• Manage relationships with external vendors and creative contractors (photographers, videographers, printers, etc.)
Brand & Signage Stewardship
• Maintain and apply the JCC’s brand and style guide consistently across all communications
• Oversee approval, production, and maintenance of interior and exterior signage
• Lead crisis communications as needed, in coordination with senior leadership
What You Bring
Experience
• 7–10 years in marketing and communications, with a track record of hands-on campaign execution—not just oversight
• Demonstrated experience running integrated, multi-channel campaigns from start to finish
• Experience in a membership-based, community, non-profit, or similarly complex organization is a strong asset
• Background in retention marketing, loyalty programs, or audience segmentation strongly preferred
• Experience executing campaigns tied to major milestones (openings, rebrands, capital campaigns) is an advantage
• Familiarity with Jewish community organizations or similar values-driven membership institutions is a plus—but not required
Skills & Approach
• A builder’s mindset: you find satisfaction in doing the work, not just planning it
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a strong ability to craft compelling narratives that inspire, engage, and connect to segmented audiences
• Comfortable stewarding a modest dedicated budget—resourceful, creative, and focused on measurable results
• Experience managing or mentoring at least one direct report; comfortable being both a manager and an individual contributor
• Organized and self-directed, able to manage competing priorities without dropping details
• Collaborative by nature; skilled at drawing content and buy-in from non-marketing colleagues
• Confident using data to assess what’s working and make adjustments quickly

Structure & Resources
How This Role Is Supported
You will directly manage a Graphic Designer/Web Master and Social Media Manager for creative production. Program, events, and facilities staff will provide you with the content, schedules, and details you need to build campaigns. A comprehensive, externally developed multi-year marketing plan provides your strategic roadmap—and you will have meaningful input in refining and adapting it. A modest dedicated marketing budget is in place. Senior leadership is actively engaged and accessible.
You will report to the Assistant Executive Director and work closely with the senior leadership team. Your immediate team is lean but your reach extends further: the JCC is part of a broad network of Jewish Community Centres across North America, and you will have regular access to marketing peers at other JCCs to exchange ideas, compare strategies, and draw on collective experience.
The Opportunity
Few marketing roles offer this combination: a clear strategy already in place, a genuinely meaningful mission, and the chance to be the person who executes a once-in-a-generation institutional transformation. If you’re a marketer who thrives on ownership, values community impact, and brings the discipline to make a lean operation punch above its weight—this role was built for you.
Salary Range: $95,000 to $115,000 annually plus a comprehensive benefits package.
Criminal Record Check: The successful candidate will need to clear a vulnerable sector criminal record check.
