Jewish Federation is seeking a strategic and operationally focused Director of Training & Compliance. This pivotal role is responsible for the design, implementation, and oversight of the Federation’s security training and compliance frameworks.

Position Summary:
Reporting to the Executive Director of Security, the Director of Training & Compliance will be instrumental in safeguarding our community, staff, and volunteers by ensuring the highest standards of preparedness and operational integrity.

By developing robust training protocols and managing rigorous compliance and logistics processes, the Director hire will ensure our community is uniquely equipped to prevent, respond to, and recover from security incidents. Beyond the core portfolio, the Director will serve as a key member of the operational team, contributing to broader security initiatives and providing cross-functional support as required.

Duties & Responsibilities:

1. Strategic Training & Development
• Curriculum Design: Lead the development and implementation of comprehensive security training programs tailored for staff, volunteers, and community members.
• Readiness Assessment: Establish metrics to evaluate trainee performance and "readiness for deployment," providing leadership with data-driven recommendations.
• Continuous Improvement: Collaborate with subject matter experts (SMEs) to ensure all training content reflects current best practices, threat landscapes, and legal standards.
• Program Administration: Oversee the systems used to track certifications, attendance, and compliance deadlines.

2. Logistics & Equipment
• Oversee security-related equipment procurement, rental, inventory, distribution, and maintenance.
• Maintain accurate logs of assets such as radios, vests, metal detectors, and other tools.
• Resource Deployment: Design and lead the logistical framework for event security, ensuring the seamless deployment, setup, teardown, and technical support of all on-site security equipment and infrastructure.
• Manage vendor relationships related to equipment and supplies.

3. Compliance & Risk Mitigation
• Vetting Oversight: Establish and manage the protocols for background checks and security clearances for all personnel in sensitive roles.
• Audit Readiness: Ensure all documentation related to training, personnel, and equipment meets organizational policies and legal/regulatory requirements.
• Protocol Integrity: Periodically audit security procedures to ensure they are being followed consistently across the organization.

4. Cross-Functional Leadership
• Operational Flexibility: Support broader Federation security functions during peak periods, ensuring a "One Team" approach to community safety.

Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in emergency management, security studies, education, logistics, or a related field is an asset.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in security training, operations, or emergency preparedness, preferably in a community or non-profit setting.
• Proven experience developing and delivering training programs for diverse audiences (staff, volunteers, community members).
• Demonstrated experience in adult learning principles and facilitating adult training sessions.
• Strong organizational and logistical skills, with experience coordinating equipment, vendors, and event security infrastructure.
• Working knowledge of physical security tools and systems (e.g., radios, metal detectors, access control equipment).
• Experience managing equipment inventory, procurement, and maintenance processes.
• Ability to analyze training outcomes, write clear evaluation reports, and make recommendations for role suitability.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present training content clearly and effectively.
• Comfortable working under pressure, responding to emergencies, and making time-sensitive decisions.
• Ability to work collaboratively across departments and with law enforcement or emergency services.
• Experience in event planning or coordination with a security/logistics lens is an asset.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and basic project or inventory management tools.
• Availability to work flexible hours, including evenings or weekends, and to respond to emergency calls if needed.
• Valid BC Security Worker’s License or willingness to obtain it within a defined time frame.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Familiarity with compliance protocols and experience conducting background checks
• Experience working within Jewish community institutions (e.g., synagogues, schools, camps, JCCs)
• Prior engagement with law enforcement, emergency services, or community safety agencies
• Understanding of Jewish community life, rhythms, and institutional structures – preferred but not required
• Security certification or designation (e.g., CPP, PSP, or similar)

Details and How to Apply:
• Salary range: $99,000 to $107,000
• Schedule: Full-time, Permanent - based on a 35-hour work week, with flexibility to work beyond regular hours when necessary and availability in a 24/7 emergency response
