Position Overview
Based in either Edmonton or Calgary, as a key member of CIJA’s senior management team, the VP Alberta, will lead provincial advocacy, drive strategic communications, and advance the interests of Alberta’s Jewish community.

Responsibilities
• Work closely with Jewish Federations of Edmonton and Calgary (collectively referred to as the “Federations”) and CIJA’s national and regional teams.
• Serve as the lead government relations representative in Alberta, building relationships with elected officials, public servants, and community allies.
• Secure support from government for community priorities.
• Partnering with the Federations’ communications departments and the CEOs, provide strategic communications and media engagement support to counter antisemitism.
• Support the Jewish Federations in addressing intimidation and discrimination targeting Jews at Alberta universities.
• Developing and ensuring implementation of strategic advocacy initiatives, including those supporting the Federations and their agencies;
• Ensuring a mutually beneficial partnership with Federations and coordination with other Calgary, Edmonton, and regional Alberta community organizations;
• Managing, developing, and providing strategic advice to the Local Partnership Council;
• Supporting the LPC and Federations with municipal areas of concern;
• Participating in development of national policy and strategy;
• Representing CIJA at events, speaking engagements, and international forums;
• Ongoing communication with Alberta community members and key influencers; and
• Other tasks as required from time to time.

Job Skills and Requirements
• A strong network and deep understanding of Alberta’s political landscape.
• Proven experience in government relations, public affairs, or political strategy.
• Excellent communication skills and comfort engaging with media.
• Strategic thinking, relationship-building skills, and the ability to mobilize stakeholders.
• Post secondary degree in policy, communications, or experience in related field.
• Ability to work in a fast paced, high-pressure environment with minimal direction and supervision.
• Experience collaborating and driving successful outcomes in a matrixed organization.
• Critical thinker and excellent problem-solver
• Experience working with volunteers is an asset.
• Knowledge of Canada’s Jewish community and the Canada-Israel relationship an asset.

Working Conditions:
• Working hours may include some nights and weekends.
• Hybrid office, position will be based in either Calgary or Edmonton.
• Domestic travel.
