Position Summary:
The Director of Marketing and Communications leads both the strategic and day-to-day communications of Jewish Federation of Greater Vancouver, enhancing the organization's visibility, reputation, and engagement with key stakeholders. This is a hands-on role that not only sets direction but is also deeply involved in implementation across channels. This role is responsible for the development and execution of a multi-channel marketing strategy that aligns with organizational priorities and strengthens community connection to Federation’s mission.

The Director ensures clear, consistent, and compelling messaging reaches a broad range of audiences, including donors, partner agencies, community members, volunteers, staff, and the general public. In addition to overseeing Jewish Federation’s brand and digital presence, the Director provides leadership, creative direction, and media strategy for both Jewish Federation and Jewish Community Foundation’s communications needs. Job Responsibilities:
Strategy & Brand Leadership
- Develop and execute a comprehensive, multi-channel marketing and communications plan aligned with Jewish Federation’s strategic goals.
- Champion the brand voice, ensuring consistent messaging and design across all digital and print materials.
- Lead development of an annual departmental budget and manage resources to maximize impact.
- Collaborate with senior leadership, program teams, and fundraising staff to support campaigns, events, and public-facing initiatives.

Content & Storytelling
- Oversee all Jewish Federation communications, from campaign materials and donor messaging to social media, newsletters, and annual reports.
- Craft compelling narratives that reflect the vibrancy and diversity of Jewish life and Federation’s community impact.
- Ensure internal and external messaging is inclusive, culturally competent, and community-centered.

Digital Media & Design Oversight
- Manage web presence, email marketing, social media engagement, and digital advertising campaigns.
- Interpret analytics and metrics to inform data-driven decision-making.
- Guide visual design strategy across all platforms, from event materials to stewardship collateral.

Public Relations & Media Engagement
- Actively cultivate and maintain strong relationships with local, national, and Jewish media outlets to increase visibility and promote Jewish Federation initiatives.
- Identify new media opportunities and pursue earned media placements that highlight Jewish Federation impact and leadership.
- Serve as a proactive media liaison—offering story ideas, coordinating interviews, and preparing spokespeople for press engagement.
- Draft press releases, talking points, media kits, and manage crisis communications as needed.

Team Management & Organizational Leadership
- Supervise and mentor marketing and communications staff, contractors, and creative vendors.
- Establish clear project workflows and maintain deadlines using project management tools (e.g. Asana, Basecamp).
- Build internal alignment across departments by acting as a communications advisor and cross-functional partner.

Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
- Minimum 8–10 years of progressive marketing and communications experience, including 3+ years of team leadership, budget management, and demonstrated ability to develop and implement effective marketing strategies.
- Demonstrated experience in media relations and/or crisis communications.
- Demonstrated excellence in writing, editing, messaging, and digital and traditional campaign development.
- Proven strategic thinking with the ability to translate business goals into actionable marketing objectives and measurable results.
- Strong knowledge of strategy and implementation relating to marketing research, promotional planning, web development, print production, digital marketing (e.g., search engine optimization (SEO), search engine marketing (SEM), pay-per-click (PPC) advertising, email marketing and social media).
- Proven ability to lead teams, promote teamwork, and build consensus with diverse groups.
- Ability to analyze data, identify trends, and make data-driven decisions.
- Deep passion for supporting and strengthening the Jewish community; a values-driven communicator with cultural sensitivity and an inclusive lens.
