PURPOSE AND SCOPE OF THE POSITION
The Clinical Educator is accountable for the planning, coordinating, facilitating, and delivering, activities related to education, training, and development outcomes of the organization, working in accordance with established standards, evidence-based practice, research, and professional practice requirements. This includes but not limited to optimizing, planning, organizing, implementing, and evaluating the day-to-day education and activities designed to meet the education, training and development of all employees, specifically and intentionally incorporating Jewish values and traditions into the education and training activities as relevant and appropriate.
More specifically, the clinical educator:
- Based on best practice, provides clinical teaching to the care staff, including allied health, and support staff, as necessary and relevant to optimize team performance and the delivery of quality safe care.
- Participates in developing training and education programs, including the development of applicable professional practice policy and procedures review and development.
- Coordinates and participates in Quality Management of training and education to develop and implement quality monitoring tools that measure and define practice outcomes against standards and best practice.
- Promotes inter-professional collaboration among the care team, allied health, physicians, and support staff to develop and deliver training and education. .
- Supports all staff in achieving ongoing continuing education.
Supports and facilitates student placement in collaboration with student placement coordinator.
- Collaborates with others as relevant and appropriate to develop and deliver orientation program(s) as it relates to professional practice.
- Collaborates with interprofessional team to plan, implement and evaluate activities related to training and education across the Snider Campus.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACTIVITIES
- Acts as clinical resource/expert to all staff throughout the Snider Campus (LBHH and WR)
- Assists staff in identifying learning needs.
- Co-ordinates, designs, develops, implements and evaluates educational programs and materials for new and existing staff
- Monitors staff competencies and clinical practice on an ongoing basis.
- Actively collaborates with all interprofessional team members to ensure deliverables as related to specific disciplines are being met as per the Operational Plan and priorities, in meeting the organizational Vision, Mission, and Values.
- Collaborates with interprofessional team to develop an organizational annual training program, including identifying required education and training, and is responsible for maintaining an annual education and training calendar.
- Researches and utilizes available resources or develops new training resources to support evidence-based teaching and resident care activities.
- Develops, implements and evaluates the organization’s interprofessional Preceptorship Program(s) (student placements), and revises based on evaluation data.
- Ensures staff are aware and informed about new/revised policies. Evaluate the effectiveness of new policy and procures implementation related to training and education outcomes.
- Ensures staff education records are developed, tracked, and maintained.
- Responsible for implementation, maintenance and monitoring of the organization’s Learning Management System and other learning platforms.
- Participates in ongoing education activities, professional certification, membership in a professional organization and reflective practice.
- Inspires, supports, and encourages professional growth and development through mentoring and coaching.
- Acts as a change agent to facilitate quality outcomes in resident care.
- Actively provides input to strategic planning for specific programs and the organization.
- Assists in the development and implementation of inter-professional models of care including the ongoing evaluation of priority systems and management guidelines.
- Assume a leadership role on special projects as assigned by the DoC and/or other members of the senior leadership team.
- Provides feedback to Managers and supervisors on individual performance. Collaborates with Managers and supervisors on learning plans related to performance improvement.
- Participates in organizational committees.
- Acts as the organization’s liaison for research activities at various levels.
- Acts as a resource to staff on quality improvement methodologies and risk management principles.
- Actively collaborates with interprofessional team in the design, development, implementation and evaluation of continuous quality improvement initiatives across the campus.
- Participates in quality monitoring audits related to quality-of-care issues, reports outcomes and collaborates on development and implementation of strategies for ongoing improvement.
- Participates in the development and monitoring of relevant and applicable quality indicators.
- All other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse or Registered Psychiatric Nurse with the British Columbia - College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) required.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) Required
- CNA Certification in Gerontological Nursing preferred.
- Master’s degree preferred.
EXPERIENCE
- Three (3) years' recent, related nursing experience related gerontology, including two years’ experience in client education and/or group facilitation or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Previous Relevant Experience Required:

- Comprehensive knowledge of clinical practice related to long-term care.

- Knowledge of LBHH policies, procedures, and standards of care.
- Knowledge of, and ability to, apply relevant quality improvement methodologies.
- Knowledge of other health care disciplines and their role in resident care.
- Comprehensive knowledge of adult education principles, methods and tools.
- Demonstrated ability to teach, demonstrate, facilitate and coach.

- Employs advanced expertise in the use of current computer applications to create and maintain a variety of resident care information systems (such as PCC), databases, documents and presentations and various educational technologies.
The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes.
As per the current Public Health Orders (Long Term Care/Seniors Assisted Living Provincial Health Officer Order and the Health Sector Order), as of October 26, 2021, all employees working for LBHH/WR must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19. Proof of vaccination status will be required.
