The Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs (CIJA) builds and nurtures relationships with leaders in government, media, academia, civil society, and other faith and ethnic communities to ensure greater understanding of the issues that impact the Jewish community. As the advocacy agent of the Jewish Federations of Canada, CIJA is a national, non-partisan, non-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of Jewish life in Canada by advancing the public policy interests of Canada’s organized Jewish community.

CIJA is seeking an Associate Director specializing in post-secondary relations to join our team. The Associate Director, Post-Secondary Relations, will coordinate CIJA’s advocacy activities with post-secondary institutions across BC. A key aspect of this role will be to present solutions to post-secondary administration and decision-makers in response to antisemitism, anti-Israel activities, and Jewish exclusion under diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) policies. This is a full-time, 3-year contract position located in Vancouver.

The ideal candidate will be a confident, experienced individual with excellent judgment, flexibility, the capacity to master new tasks quickly, and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team. This position requires a professional with a cooperative style, exceptional people skills, and the ability to build meaningful relationships with stakeholders on campus and within the Jewish community. The candidate will be able to analyze and advance advocacy concerns across BC’s post-secondary sector. The successful candidate will also possess excellent communication skills, a strong knowledge of the post-secondary education sector, familiarity with the Jewish community (including current issues and impacts), and a willingness to learn. This position reports to the Vice President, CIJA Pacific Region.


Key Areas of Responsibility

  • Work closely with the Vice President, CIJA Pacific Region, and the Director, University Relations, CIJA National, to develop and advance CIJA’s advocacy priorities in the post-secondary sector.
  • Coordinate with Hillel BC’s Director of Student Advocacy and, where appropriate, other partner agencies, to address emerging issues on BC campuses.
  • Build and maintain key relationships with university administrations, including the President, VP Research, Provost, VP Communications, VP External, EDI Directors, relevant Deans, and others, in coordination with the Vice President, CIJA Pacific Region.
  • Assess and advance advocacy concerns in the post-secondary environment.
  • Present solutions to post-secondary administration/decision-makers in response to antisemitism, anti-Israel activities, and Jewish exclusion under diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) policies.
  • Coordinate public affairs relations efforts with CIJA staff across the country to develop and implement best practices for campus advocacy.
  • Maintain and grow a network of relevant contacts.

  • Experience in academia, including holding an advanced degree, is an asset.
  • Experience in the field of politics and/or public policy is an asset.
  • Experience in pro-Israel and/or Jewish advocacy is an asset.
