Overall Responsibility

Manages all library operations and leads a team of committed professionals and volunteers in order to create a welcoming, inclusive and comfortable place in which members of the Jewish and non-Jewish community can pursue educational, informational and social interests by providing a wide range of print and electronic Judaic resources to serve their needs.

Key Areas of Responsibility

Administration:

  • Manage day-to-day operations in the library
  • Plan for the overall development of the library, including policy and planning (annual work plan, budgeting, etc.).
  • Maintain and collect statistics, reports, correspondence
  • Manage logistics related to book donations, processing, selecting, storing, etc.
  • Coordinate ongoing consultations with maintenance re: used books/cleaning/storage
  • Supervise, coordinate and train library staff and volunteers (includes recruitment, hiring, motivation and appreciation)

Library Services:

  • Collection development & acquisitions
  • Circulation services
  • Reference and information services

Program Development:

  • Create programs as appropriate to promote the goals and values of the Library
  • Facilitate programs and/or support facilitators
  • Encourage local writers, artists and other talents
  • Adapt programming for new technologies
  • Develop programming in other locations & other spaces within the JCC

Fundraising:

  • Coordinate and execute fundraising events, including annual Telethon, Used Book Sale, Read-a-thon
  • Grants: identify opportunities and write grant applications
  • Develop relationships with donors

Community engagement and promotion:

  • Community outreach & public relations
  • Marketing and promoting the library
  • Social media
  • Cooperation & collaboration with library organizations (public & college libraries; associations: BCLA, AJL)
  • Cooperation & collaboration with Jewish community agencies & organizations
  • Customer Service (organizations and individuals)
  • Engage in outreach initiatives and outlying community activities
  • Liaise and develop collaborations with other JCC Departments

Computer and Technical Operations:

  • Purchasing and maintaining library hardware, software & networks
  • Database development & maintenance

Qualifications

  • An accredited Master of Library and Information Services degree. A Library Technician Diploma will also be considered with the right combination of experience
  • Experience in public libraries & knowledge of standard library services and operations
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of Jewish customs and traditions
  • Some Hebrew knowledge is an asset
  • Experience working with volunteers
  • Fundraising/ PR experience
  • Budget development and management skills
  • Advanced computer / technical skills
  • Knowledge of current library practices, new technologies and trends

Salaried position with benefits: 30 hours per week (typically M-Th; 10 am - 6 pm)
