Congregation Beth Israel (CBI) seeks an energetic, thoughtful, and collaborative Executive Director to serve as its chief operating leader working alongside clergy. Status: Full-Time, Exempt. Salary: $82,000–$95,000. Location: Bellingham, WA. Submit applications to hiring@bethisraelbellingham.org.Position Overview: Primary responsibility for the day-to-day operational, financial, and administrative health of the synagogue, reporting to the Board of Directors.Key Responsibilities: 1) Financial Stewardship & Sustainability (oversee finance operations, budgeting, revenue generation, grants, risk management). 2) Personnel Management & Volunteer Coordination (supervise staff, coordinate volunteers, HR compliance). 3) Operations, Facilities & Security (building maintenance, vendor management, security protocols, event logistics). 4) Leadership & Strategy (ex-officio partner to the Board, committee support, implement board decisions). 5) Membership & Engagement Infrastructure (CRM/database, communications, support for Religious School operations). 6) Communications & External Relations (oversee publications, social media, website; advance visibility and inclusion).Required Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s preferred (Non-Profit Management, Business Admin, or related). Minimum 5 years relevant executive leadership experience, preferably within a synagogue/Jewish communal organization/non-profit. Deep familiarity with Jewish ritual, history, traditions, and customs. Proven leadership across finance, facilities, HR, and fundraising. Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills with emotional intelligence. Schedule flexibility, including evenings/weekends and high holiday periods.
