Job description:

The Aquatics Director, is an integral part of the JCC Sports and Recreation management team with responsibility for budgeting, staffing, planning, and managing all aspects of our Aquatics Department, including pool facilities. This position is directly responsible for all aspects of programming, operations, maintenance, and repairs for our main pool, as well as assisting when needed for the Summer Camp pool. The Director leads, teaches, schedules, and ensures proper certifications of and for the Aquatics Department staff. The Director plans, develops, schedules, coordinates and leads a robust array of member-focused aquatics programs, including swimming lessons and a variety of adult water fitness classes. The Director will ensure that Aquatics team members consistently execute the basics of punctuality, dress code compliance, friendliness and cleanliness.

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop, implement, and oversee fun aquatic activities and programs for members, customers and guests.
  • Work closely with the Aquatics Coordinator.
  • Instruct and supervise aquatics classes.
  • Assist with the head swim team coach to schedule pool time and swim meets. Coaching when needed.
  • Build positive relationships with the members, parents, children and staff.
  • Hire, train and evaluate the aquatics staff.
  • Coordinate all scheduling of lifeguards and swim instructors.
  • Ensure all staff certifications are current.
  • Organize and instruct aquatics and safety certification training as needed.
  • Assist with payroll.
  • Ensure all safety protocols are followed to prevent injuries in the pool area.
  • Teach 5 private lessons (children's or adults) per week.
  • Assist with the maintenance of the indoor and outdoor pools, including cleanliness, chemistry and climate control.
  • Monitor and maintain inventory of pool equipment and supplies.
  • Assist in the implementation of all health policies regarding the pool and ensure all health licensing requirements and certifications for the indoor and outdoor pools are up to date. Maintain accurate logs for pool chemicals and maintenance.
  • Assist in the annual budget preparation. Monitors and is responsible for income and expense lines of all programs and services.
  • Create and maintain the pool schedule.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of, and participation in, pool programs.
  • Monitor registration of swim programs and private lessons.
  • Coordinate with department heads on their needs in the pool area.
  • Think outside the box to expand on current Aquatics programming and events.
  • Attend required staff meetings and departmental meetings.
  • Complete other duties assigned by the Operation Director of the JCC.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Red Cross Lifeguard certification (including CPR, 1st Aid, AED, Blood borne pathogen training)
  • WSI preferred
  • Certified Pool Operator certification
  • Lifeguard Instructor certification preferred
