ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION
JFGI is a central fundraising and community planning organization. With an Annual Campaign of more than $4 million and Endowment assets under management of nearly $100 million, JFGI supports and enriches lives locally, nationally, and around the world. We also provide funding to many local and regional agencies, several national and overseas partners, and numerous independent programs that provide deeper connection and create community in Central Indiana. JFGI resides on and manages the operations of a 40-acre campus, and programs funded by the JFGI create life-sustaining and life-changing impact, while inspiring and engaging members of the Indianapolis Community and surrounding areas.
This position is an essential part of our finance team (CFO and Staff Accountant) whose main responsibility is to prepare all financial statements, bi-weekly payroll and provide audit/tax prep work and other financial resources for the organization. It also oversees the work of the Staff Accountant and requires a mentoring mindset.
The Controller also works collaboratively with our Development department to help document and process the financial transactions of the organization in the CRM (Blackbaud) system.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Posting payments to donor accounts, reconciliation of A/R balances, generation of aging reports, preparation of monthly journal entries, reconciliation of contributions between CRM system and accounting system, bank reconciliation, interagency billing, administration of fringe benefits, bi-weekly payroll entry, preparation of audit workpapers, preparation of schedules for 990, review and approval of A/P vouchers, credit card reconciliations, supervision and mentoring of Staff Accountant.
IV. JOB QUALIFICAITONS
- Educational Background:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or is a must.
- Previous Work Experience:
- A minimum of 5-7 years of related work experience, including financial statement preparation and month-end close.
- Not for Profit/Fund accounting experience with exposure to Community Suite (Foundant) software or other fund accounting software is a plus.
- Special Skills and Abilities:
- Attention to processes and detail is essential
- Ability to handle multiple tasks with proven organizational skills
- Demonstrated ability to take initiative and work independently
- Must be a self-starter, motivated to identify and seek answers to questions and issues that arise on his/her own.
- Ability to work in a team environment and interact professionally with colleagues
- Computer literacy with strong competency in all Microsoft Office Suite programs (esp. Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams) and CRM software, such as Blackbaud; Foundant software experience (big +)
- Ability to work with and maintain confidential information
- Position will be in-office, but open to limited remote flexibility
- JFGI will be following CDC Guidelines as it relates to COVID-19 protocols
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work environment characteristics are representative of an office setting and is usually fast-paced with constant stimulation and mobility. This job requires high energy and interaction with staff, leadership, donors, volunteers, and program participants. Meetings and programs may be conducted outside of the office, as well as outside of standard business hours. Expectations are that staff present a professional appearance and behave in a professional manner at all times, particularly when interacting with program participants and donors. Physical demands are primarily limited to operating general office equipment and tasks associated with event and program planning.
