About the Managing Director, Enterprise Applications position:
The Managing Director, Enterprise Applications is a key partner to the CIO in defining and executing the organization’s technology strategy and guiding the on-going evolution of our business systems. The Managing Director is expected to work collaboratively with process / business owners, vendors, partners, leadership, and information technology staff to help ensure the enterprise applications align with the organizational vision, meet business needs, and are prioritized and implemented successfully.
The Managing Director, Enterprise Applications, reports to the Chief Information Officer and is a senior-level position within the Federation and the IT department. The Managing Director will lead our robust and talented teams tasked with day-to-day administration, architecture, analysis, data governance, support, life-cycle management, development, and training of the enterprise systems including Oracle NetSuite, Boomi, Salesforce, ADP, Data Warehouse, and custom software, digital, and reporting platforms. The Managing Director will be accountable for the overall leadership, architecture, implementation, usage, and roadmap of a portfolio of enterprise systems, enhancing and maintaining these systems to ensure they effectively support the Federation’s expansive fundraising and business operations.
Essential Functions:
Strategy
- Partner with the CIO to provide leadership, coordination, change enablement, and delivery oversight of the systems roadmap and strategy.
- Collaborate with business partners across the organization including Finance, Development, Marketing, Donor Services, and HR to understand and prioritize their needs, and develop strategies that meet business objectives.
- Manage the work planning process such that prioritized fixes and enhancements are released on a regular cadence and the business is informed of and appropriately trained to adopt each release.
- Partner with vendors and project management resources to manage scope, schedule, and resources allocation to ensure work is delivered in accordance with business needs.
- Establish and lead governance processes for enterprise applications, including prioritization, roadmap planning, change control, architecture reviews, and investment decisions.
Technology Leadership
- Direct the strategy, architecture, implementation, support, enhancement, and lifecycle management of the Federation's enterprise application ecosystem, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives and technology strategy.
- Oversee the roadmap and release schedules for all systems and ensure a strong change management process.
- Ensure a cohesive enterprise architecture through effective integration of systems, data platforms, and third-party applications.
- Lead master data management and governance initiatives and ensure ongoing data quality controls and processes are in place.
- Manage partner relationships to ensure quality service delivery including agreements, renewals, and procurement.
- Lead and initiate technology change throughout the organization; evangelize the use of technology and spearhead education and training opportunities for staff.
Department Leadership
- Lead and enable a multidisciplinary team of managers, analysts, architects, administrators, developers, and support personnel responsible for the Federation's enterprise application portfolio. Establish a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, operational excellence, and customer service while developing future technology leaders.
- Assist in recruiting, mentoring, and maximizing the growth potential of a high-performing IT team, including goalsetting, performance management, and continuous skills development.
- Assist with establishing and implementing policies and procedures that achieve the directives and strategies of the CIO, President, Senior Leadership Team, and Board of Trustees.
- Function as a strong contributor to the IT and Federation management team, acting as a proxy for the CIO in departmental or technology decisions.
- Develop strong working relationships with the members of the lay leader committee and external advisors.
- Perform other duties assigned to meet the goals and objectives of the IT department and the Federation.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
- Master's degree (MBA, MIS, or related discipline) preferred.
- Minimum 10 years of progressive leadership experience in technology management roles.
- Minimum 5 years leading cross-functional technology teams supporting enterprise-scale business systems.
- Demonstrated experience leading large-scale enterprise systems, upgrades, migrations, consolidations, and business process improvement initiatives involving ERP, CRM, HRIS, marketing, and data platforms.
- Demonstrated experience inheriting, leading, and improving established enterprise application teams while driving accountability, performance improvement, and operational maturity.
- Experience in project management and execution, including managing budgets, vendors, and timelines and overseeing complex project plans.
- Experience within nonprofit or mission-driven organizations preferred.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with proven ability to translate business requirements into solutions.
- Able to lead discussions, articulate problems, brainstorm solutions, and drive change in how people think and approach work.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, including the ability to influence a diverse group of stakeholders and drive change at an organizational level.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize and engage in a variety of tasks simultaneously while consistently meeting short deadline situations.
- High attention to detail, follow-up, self-motivated, proactive, and solution minded.
- Experience with Oracle NetSuite and Salesforce strongly preferred.
- Experience with Microsoft cloud solutions, Data Warehousing, Business Process Automation, AI, a plus.
