Immigration Staff Attorney

Class: Full time/Exempt

Reports To: Director of Immigration and Legal Services

Salary: $80,000-$90,000

Location: In person

Position Summary:

Jewish Family Services of Greenwich (JFS) is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Immigration Attorney to provide full legal representation in U.S. immigration matters. This position is based in Southeastern Connecticut (Norwich and/or New London) ,and includes direct client services and legal screenings, with a focus on supporting refugees, humanitarian parolees, and general immigration clients. The attorney will also provide referrals when appropriate and contribute to a collaborative, mission-driven legal team.

Key Responsibilities:

· Provide comprehensive legal representation in immigration matters, including naturalization, adjustment of status, asylum, and humanitarian relief.

· Offer empathetic and culturally sensitive legal support to JFS clients, including refugees and individuals with humanitarian parole.

· Conduct legal screenings and assessments to determine eligibility for immigration relief.

· Prepare and file applications with USCIS and represent clients in interviews and proceedings before EOIR.

· Maintain accurate and timely case documentation, including outcome tracking and reporting.

· Provide leadership, mentorship, and oversight to legal interns, volunteers, and junior staff involved in immigration casework, ensuring adherence to legal standards and organizational policies and other supervisory responsibilities as needed.

· Collaborate with JFS staff to ensure a welcoming and supportive environment for both in-person and remote client interactions.

· Stay informed of changes in immigration law, policy, and procedures through ongoing training and professional development.

· Participate in internal immigration department meetings and cross-departmental collaboration.

· Provide referrals to external legal resources when appropriate.

· Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

· Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree and active license to practice law in the United States (Member of the Connecticut Bar or eligible for regional reciprocity preferred)

· Demonstrated experience with EOIR policies, procedures, and filing, including removal defense representation before Immigration Court.

· Demonstrated experience with USCIS filings and client representation in immigration matters.

· Bilingual fluency in English and Spanish (or Haitian Creole) is highly preferred.

· Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple cases and deadlines.

· Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

· Commitment to social justice, immigrant rights, and the mission of JFS.

· Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
