Reports To: JFS Access Supervisor
Pay Range: $23 - $24/hour

Position Overview:
JFS is looking for a compassionate, mission-driven individual to join the Access team as the Intake Specialist In this role, you have the opportunity to use your customer service skills and resource navigation experience to make a meaningful difference in your community and help change lives across San Diego. The Intake Specialist plays an integral role on the team and supports the entire agency by being responsible for receiving and responding to all incoming client inquiries in a timely manner and connecting clients to services at JFS and in the broader community. This position reports directly to the JFS Access Supervisor and works closely with the Access and Resource Navigation Team and the rest of the Nutrition and Aging Care Services Division.
Responsibilities:
- Respond to incoming calls and web inquiries for services
- Conduct initial assessment to identify needs, safety concerns, and/or barriers to accessing services
- Screen and refer callers to appropriate internal and external referrals
- Maintain clear and timely documentation of all communication in electronic client record system
- Provide a consistently high level of customer service
- Cultivate relationships and work collaboratively with other JFS program staff
- Maintain thorough knowledge of JFS programs and eligibility requirements, as well as community resources
- Follow up with client referrals as appropriate
- Flexibly respond to evolving program models and client needs
- Ensures compliance with HIPAA regulations
Skills/Experience/Abilities That Are a Must-Have:
- High School Diploma
- Minimum of one year of experience in a customer service role
- Experience in working with stressed clients, often in some level of urgency
- Ability to provide professional and friendly customer service in a fast-paced environment
- Comfort working in an environment where multiple languages are spoken
- Sensitivity to cultural differences present in the organizations/programs service population
- Understanding of the low-income population and the concept of trauma informed care
- Desire to work in an integrated team environment
- Ability to show an unconditional positive regard for clients who turn to JFS for support
- Proficiency in Microsoft Suite programs
- Experience in utilizing client records system
Skills/Abilities We’d Like You to Have:
- Bilingual/Bicultural candidates preferred
- Bachelor’s degree (in a human services field) preferred
- Prior experience in the non-profit sector
- Experience working with individuals and families facing economic challenges
Physical Requirements:
- Complete phone calls at desk, lasting from 5-45 minutes
- Sit or stand for long periods of time
- Stand, walk and use hands and arms to use a keyboard, handle papers, and reach for the phone
- Occasionally climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl
- Occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds
- Concentration and good hearing are required
