Position Title: Food Pantry Assistant

Position Type: Full-Time (37.5+ hours/week), Non-Exempt

Work Setting: Fully Onsite

Reports To: Nutrition Operations Manager

Pay Range: $20/hour

Position Overview:

JFS is looking for a compassionate, mission-driven individual to join the Nutrition team as the Food Pantry Assistant In this role, you have the opportunity to use your customer service and teamwork skills and pantry experience to make a meaningful difference in your community and help change lives across San Diego. The Food Pantry Assistant plays an integral role on the team and supports the entire agency by working closely with the Hand Up Food Pantry team on day-to-day operations of the Food Pantry Warehouse and supports the preparation and delivery of all onsite and offsite food distributions to the community. This position reports directly to the Nutrition Operations Manager and works closely with the Hand-Up Food Pantry Team and the rest of the Nutrition and Aging Care Services Division.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and execute daily warehouse operations
  • Provide guidance to volunteers working in the warehouse and distribution opportunities
  • Attend and oversee food distributions in the community as needed
  • Perform client intake and documentation at distributions as needed
  • Accurate data collection and entry into various databases
  • Maintain a monthly calendar of events occurring in the Food Pantry
  • Provide support as needed throughout the Nutrition Division
  • Ensure proper food safety practices are always followed
  • Other duties as assigned

Skills/Experience/Abilities That Are a Must-Have:

  • Must have a valid CA driver's license, insurance, a reliable personal vehicle, and a willingness to travel off-site
  • Food Handler’s Card (may be obtained on the job)
