Position Title: Food Pantry Assistant

Position Type: Temporary (37.5 hours/week), Non-Exempt

Work Setting: Fully Onsite

Reports To: Food Pantry Lead, Corner Market

Pay Range: $18.50- $19.75/hour

Total Compensation:

In addition to standard pay, compensation for this position includes:

Position Overview:

JFS is looking for a compassionate, mission-driven individual to join the Nutrition team as the Food Pantry Assistant, temporary. In this role, you have the opportunity to use your communication and organizational skills and customer service experience to make a meaningful difference in your community and help change lives across San Diego. The temporary Food Pantry Assistant plays an integral role on the team and supports the entire agency by supporting the daily Corner Market activities and assisting with warehouse operations. This position reports directly to the Nutrition Operations Manager and works closely with the rest of the Nutrition team.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide support to volunteers working in the Corner Market to assist shoppers
  • Restock the Corner Market as needed, maintaining a neat and organized inventory
  • Update stock in the inventory management system
  • Assist online order shoppers at their scheduled pickup time
  • Assist in the Food Pantry warehouse: assembling packages of groceries and frozen meals for distribution, sorting and storing food donations and fresh rescue donations
  • Assist shifts of kitchen volunteers to portion and package frozen meals, and other side work in preparation for the following morning
  • Conduct fresh rescue food pickups and assist with gleaning, sorting, and organizing as needed
  • Other duties as assigned

Skills/Experience/Abilities That Are a Must-Have:

  • Responsible, well organized
  • Comfort in using a computerized client management system
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team
  • Excellent verbal, written, interpersonal, and organizational skills
  • Able to work with a wide range of individuals from a diverse socio-economic background and origins

Skills/Abilities We’d Like You to Have:

  • Bilingual preferred

Physical Requirements:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential duties and responsibilities of this job. As a routine part of work, employees will generally be required to use their hands to manipulate, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; and talk and hear. This position requires frequently lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
