The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) is responsible for assisting providers of care in the family practice clinic. This position ensures quality service and delivery of care to patients and maintains the service delivery environment. This environment will be clean, well maintained, and the patients are treated with excellence in customer service. This position supports, promotes and furthers our goal of providing the highest standards of culturally relevant and sensitive professional service consistent with our mission.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Clinical Duties (may include, but not limited to):
- Collects patient medical histories and administers screening questionnaires
- Explains treatment procedures to patients
- Prepares patients for examinations
- Assists the provider during examinations
- Collects and prepares laboratory specimens
- Performs phlebotomy and basic laboratory tests
- Instructs patients about medication and special diets
- Prepares and administers medications, including by intramuscular, intradermal, and subcutaneous injections, including vaccinations/immunizations, as directed by a physician or other licensed provider (e.g., a nurse practitioner or physician assistant).
- Transmits prescription refills, as directed
- Takes electrocardiograms
- Performs wound care and changes dressings
- Performs inventory of and orders clinic supplies. stocks rooms
- Performs daily quality control checks of laboratory devices, per policy and procedures
- Performs refrigerator maintenance tasks, per policy and procedures
- Performs sterilization of instruments, per policy and procedures
- Other duties as assigned.
Front Desk:
- Serves patients by greeting and helping them, scheduling appointments, and maintaining records and accounts
- Collects client payment and records into practice management system
- Ensures that customer calls are answered promptly and courteously and routed appropriately
- Protects patient’s rights by maintaining confidentiality of medical, personal, and financial information
- Processes patient document filing and retention of records
- Ensures reception and waiting areas are kept clean and de-cluttered
- Performs billing activities as per policy
- Processes patient referrals, as directed by providers
- Responds to patient questions and routes to appropriate resource
- Coordinates and processes medical records requests.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Completed Medical Assistant program from an accredited school
- 2 years of experience working as a CMA
- Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office suite of products
- Bilingual in Spanish and English required
