Adaptive Bike Program Intern - Unpaid

Position Summary: The Adaptive Bike Program Intern will work closely with the Adaptive Bike Program Coordinator to spearhead our grant-funded initiative in Douglas County to design, launch, and manage a program to empower adults with developmental disabilities in cycling and recreation. You will foster partnerships with county recreation centers, schools, and community organizations to identify program locations and create weekly schedules for Bicycle Basics and Trail Riding programs. This is an ongoing program.
Responsibilities:
- Establish positive relationships with the Douglas County recreational centers and schools.
- Coordinate bike storage and indoor riding options during inclement weather with recreation centers and/or schools.
- Design and implement bicycle basics and trail riding courses, including curriculum development.
- Assist with the procurement of adaptive bikes and equipment for the program.
- Partner with the JFS volunteer team to establish volunteer criteria.
- Supervise the Adaptive Bike Program participants and volunteers.
- Provide guidance and feedback for successful program implementation.
- Cultivate connections between participants and the broader Colorado cycling community.
- Develop pre- and post-assessments for bicycle skills, safety, physical health, and social connections to present data-based outcomes.
- Provide monthly status reports regarding the Bicycle Basics and Trial Riding programs.
- Create satisfaction surveys for participants, family members, providers, and volunteers to gather program feedback.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
- Must be enrolled in an accredited degree program
Experience:
- Experience working with individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities, combined with knowledge and experience of bicycle and adaptive bike usage in recreation settings preferred.
- Adaptive sports or recreational program coordination experience is a plus.
- Other:
- Able to lift 40 pounds to perform necessary physical tasks, such as assisting participants and carrying supplies and equipment (bikes).
- Ability to bend, kneel, stoop, and perform push/pull motions to perform required tasks, such as moving light supplies and equipment, picking up materials, etc.
- Able to grasp or hold items to perform necessary tasks, such as handling program materials and supplies, moving items, etc.
- Must possess a current and valid Colorado driver’s license in good standing and maintain automobile insurance.
- CPR, Standard First Aid, and AED certifications or willingness to obtain them before program commencement.
- Proficient in computer skills, documentation, and database management.
