Associate Director – Disability Services

AGENCY OVERVIEW:

Jewish Family and Children’s Services (JFCS) has served the San Francisco Bay Area for 175 years. The Disabilities Services program provides comprehensive support for neurodivergent individuals and their families. We offer information, advocacy, care management, counseling, a vibrant social club, and residential support through the Gary Shupin Independent Living Community.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the supervision of the Director of Disability Services, the Associate Director of Disability Services serves as a senior operational and program leader within the Gary Shupin Independent Living Community. This role supports the strategic growth and day-to-day leadership of Shupin’s programs serving adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities by overseeing employment initiatives for Shupin residents; overseeing the Shupin Social Club programming; supporting behavioral support to residents and representing department in community outreach and engagement activities.

The Associate Director directly supervises the Career and Employment Specialist, Job Coaches, and the Social Club Program Manager, and serves as a deputy to the Director of Disability Services, providing operational coverage and decision-making authority in the Director’s absence. As the program grows, the Associate Director role may expand to include additional programmatic oversight and supervisory responsibilities.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

  • Salary Range: $80,000-$100,000 (depending on experience)
  • Employment Type: full-time, exempt position with benefits

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead employer-focused outreach and partnership development to expand sustainable, competitive employment opportunities for Shupin Community residents with developmental disabilities
  • Develop, cultivate, and maintain strategic relationships with Bay Area businesses, corporations, small enterprises, and community organizations committed to inclusive hiring
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for all employer partners, ensuring consistent communication, coordination, and follow-through
  • Provide supervisory oversight to the Social Club Program Manager, ensuring high-quality, resident-centered programming across all Social Club activities; Partner with Social Club staff to develop and refine programming strategies that support, residents’ social engagement, independence, and community integration that reflect the interests and needs of the broader Shupin community
  • Represent the Director of Disability Services and the Disability Services department at internal and external meetings, events, and professional convenings when the Director is unavailable
  • Supervise the Career and Employment Specialist, Job Coaches and Social Club Program Manager; Establish clear goals and expectations, drive shared accountability, and invest in staff development to strengthen team performance and succession planning
  • Collaborate with the Director of Disability Services and the clinical team members to develop behavioral support frameworks and approaches that staff implement in day-to-day interactions with residents
  • Train staff on evidence-based behavioral and social support approaches such as PEERS model, applied behavior analysis principles, social skills training, to ensure consistent and effective behavioral support across the program

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in human services, social work, business, psychology, or a related field required
  • Master’s degree in social work, psychology, or a related field required
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of experience working with adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities in a residential, community-based, or social services setting
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in business development, employer outreach, account management, or employment services
  • At least five (5) years of supervisory or leadership experience, including oversight of program staff
  • Experience in disability employment services, supported employment, or inclusive workforce programs strongly preferred
  • Experience providing behavioral support, social skills instruction, or case management to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities preferred
  • CPR and First Aid Certification required, or certification must be obtained within six (6) months of employment
  • Reliable transportation is required to travel within the San Francisco Bay area region for employer outreach, networking, and community services. If driving own vehicle, must possess a valid California Driver’s License and proof of automobile liability insurance meeting agency standards
