The Louisville Hebrew School began at the turn of the century, and was in full swing by the 1920s. Today, students in grades three through eight attend Hebrew School classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Jewish Community Center. Participating congregations are Congregation Adath Jeshurun, Keneseth Israel Congregation and Temple Shalom. The main focus of the curriculum is to prepare students to use Hebrew knowledgeably in services, rituals and prayer and to enable them to be active participants in congregational services. The second priority is to involve parents in their children's Hebrew education, and several times each year the school schedules Student/Parent Shabbat services.
