The JCC Elmer Toth Food Pantry Volunteer plays a vital role in supporting food distribution efforts and ensuring clients receive nutritious food in a welcoming, respectful environment. Volunteers assist with food pickup, sorting, stocking, and distribution while helping maintain an organized and safe pantry.

Schedule Requirements:

  • Availability on Sundays and/or Tuesdays
  • Volunteer shift: 9:00 AM - 11:30 AM (Drivers, Loaders); 10:15 AM - 1:00 PM (Intake, Sorters and Client Services); 12:30 PM - 1:30 PM (Clean up)
  • Must be reliable and arrive on time for scheduled shifts

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with receiving, shorting, and organizing donated food items
  • Load, unload, and transport food and supplies as needed
  • Help select food for distribution
  • Support pantry operations during client service hours
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe pantry environment
  • Interact respectfully and compassionately with clients, volunteers, and staff
  • Follow all food safety and organizational procedures
  • Assist with other pantry-related tasks as assigned

Qualifications: For Drivers:

  • Valid driver's license required
  • Clean driving record required
  • Volunteer Drivers must be willing to use their own vehicle

Qualifications: For Intake:

  • Familiarity with Personal Computers
  • Knowledge of MS Excel
  • Demonstrated ability to perform data entry rapidly and efficiently
  • Willingness to learn Feedmore applications, including Link2Feed and MealConnect

Qualifications: For All volunteers

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Must pass a background check prior to acceptance
  • Dependable, punctual, and committed to serving the community
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Physical Requirements

  • Loaders: Ability to lift and carry 25-60 pounds
  • Client Services: Ability to lift and carry 25-45 pounds
  • All Others:
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
  • Ability to climb stairs safely
  • Ability to bend, reach, push, and pull as needed during pantry operations

Preferred Qualities

  • Passion for helping individuals and families experiencing food insecurity
  • Positive attitude and willingness to assist wherever needed
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and treat all clients with dignity and respect
  • Fluency in Spanish, Farsi, Pashto, Russian or Ukrainian a plus
  • Completion of ServSafe Food Handler Training (we will arrange that for you)
