The Outreach Worker serves as a credible messenger within the community and plays a critical role in reducing violence through relationship-building, conflict mediation, and community engagement. This position is responsible for identifying and engaging individuals at the highest risk of involvement in violence, working directly with them to encourage positive alternatives, and connecting them to supportive services.
Job Responsibilities:
· Identify individuals in the service area who are at high risk of involvement in shootings and other serious violence and engage these individuals in mentoring sessions and activities designed to understand and reject the impulse to act violently and to set more positive life goals.
· Build a caseload of a minimum of 10 program participants (and a maximum of 15) by the worker's fourth month on the job and maintain a minimum of 10 high-risk participants thereafter.
o Develop and implement a risk reduction plan with each participant.
o Maintain regular contact with program participants through face-to-face contacts (minimum 10 per participant each month) and telephone communication/video contact (minimum 10 per participant each month).
o Document all referrals and program/service enrollment to external resources
· Conduct outreach in the community (individually and as a team member) to build strong relationships with youth, residents, businesses, and community groups.
· Conduct daily (team) community canvassing- walking the service area to establish program presence, understand current and past conflicts, create opportunities for informal contact with those at risk of involvement in shootings and other serious violence and become familiar with community members. Must meet a minimum of 20 hours per week of team canvassing.
· Work with team members to coordinate an inclusive and immediate strategic response when shootings and other conflicts take place.
· Ensures accurate documentation of daily activity and enters data into the required reporting tool in a timely matter.
· Attend meetings and trainings coordinated and required by the funder.
· Other responsibilities as determined by Program Management.
Job Requirements:
- High school diploma required
- One year of experience in human services or related field preferred.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills that can engage high-risk individuals, community members, and partners.
- Awareness of community resources, social services, mental health supports, and conflict mediation strategies.
- Conflict resolution and de-escalation skills to manage volatile situations safely.
- Time management and organizational skills to balance caseload requirements, outreach, and documentation requirements.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a collaborative team.
- Basic computer literacy. Ability to do basic data entry.
- Past criminal justice system involvement is acceptable, however pending criminal cases or prior convictions for sexual assault, child abuse or domestic violence are not permitted.
This position is Full-Time, 35 hours per week
This role is on-site and requires travel within the community
Pay: $25.00 - $27.00 per hour
