The Director of Marketing & Community Strategy is responsible for developing and executing an editorial content strategy that brings the JCCSF’s mission, impact, and community to life. The Director advances organizational storytelling and content strategies that deepen relationships with members, participants, funders, and new audiences.
Working across Development and Jewish Community Engagement programs, they will develop and advance marketing, communications and community engagement strategies that strengthen the JCCSF’s visibility, impact, reputation and participation in programs and events. They bring an audience development mindset to marketing — leveraging relationships that activate community networks, engaging trusted voices, and reaching audiences through the channels and approaches most meaningful to them.
Working in alignment with organizational strategies, this position serves as a communicator and connector across the organization. Success in this role requires exceptional collaboration, influence, and the ability to lead through relationships in a complex, mission-driven environment.
Organizational Storytelling & Content Strategy
- Lead the development of an editorial content calendar and storytelling strategy that amplifies mission, strengthens external and internal stakeholder connection, and ensures compelling narratives across key touchpoints.
- Build the systems, relationships, and shared practices that empower teams across the JCCSF to contribute meaningful stories and content, strengthening our collective ability to share the impact of our work.
Development & Fundraising Support
- Support Development-led fundraising initiatives, bringing strategic marketing expertise through messaging, campaign strategy and donor storytelling.
- Develop and optimize donor and participant nurture strategies, including email journeys and engagement campaigns that move audiences from initial participation to sustained involvement and charitable giving.
- Identify new channels and approaches for donor engagement.
Campaign Management
- Launch integrated marketing campaigns to support programs including newsletters, digital, environmental graphics, social media, and new channels or platforms.
- Advance marketing initiatives through the marketing team’s creative process, from strategy and messaging through execution.
- Partner with the VP of Marketing to develop and advance strategic marketing initiatives that support emerging organizational priorities, bringing audience insights, experimentation, and new approaches to how the JCCSF reaches and engages communities.
- Measure and evaluate audience growth, participation, and retention to inform future engagement strategies.
Jewish Community Engagement
- Partner with Jewish Engagement program teams to develop marketing strategies that increase participation, foster belonging at the JCCSF and within the Jewish Communal ecosystem, and build vibrant Jewish community.
- Develop audience growth strategies for emerging initiatives, affinity groups and engagement opportunities including young families, newcomers and other targeted audiences and relationship-based initiatives.
- Identify opportunities to attract new audiences and encourage ongoing engagement through strategic communications and audience development.
Special Projects
- Support cross-functional or major initiatives, including new program launches, building renovations, and signature events, with thoughtful messaging and engagement planning.
- Write and advance strategic communications, tightly aligned with organizational strategies and messaging.
- 8+ years of experience in marketing strategy, partnerships, audience engagement, or related leadership roles
- Strong experience developing strategic marketing initiatives and cross-functional collaboration
- Experience supporting fundraising or working alongside Development teams
- Demonstrated success building partnerships and community relationships
- Strong storytelling and content strategy capabilities
- Excellent communication, relationship-building, and leadership skills
- Superb organizational and proven success in project management. Strong ability to thrive while managing tight deadlines, multiple simultaneous projects and numerous clients.
- Proactive, positive style with the ability to think strategically and provide creative solutions, the political savvy to drive consensus and the discipline to convert plans into real deliverables.
- Knowledge of or interest in Jewish culture/organizations and community engagement is a plus.
- Must be capable in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook, and can get up to speed quickly with a web-based project management and trafficking tool such as Asana.
Working conditions are typical of an office environment. A hybrid work schedule of up to 50% remote work is available, subject to program requirements and team schedules.
Position requires seated or standing use of a computer throughout the day.
