Summer Camp at the JCCSF offers one-week to three-week sessions in both the traditional day camp and specialty camp settings for campers in grades K-8. Summer Camp is in session June 1 - August 21. Our classic day camps feature arts & crafts, STEAM projects, and sports. Specialty camps include visual arts, nature exploration, musical theater, science and more.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background working with children in a school or camp setting, experience organizing and planning youth programs, and experience supervising camp staff. This is a very front-facing role, and someone who is outgoing and energetic is a must.
- Support general counselors and specialists
- Collaborate with staff. This includes daily meetings, and regular verbal and written evaluations.
- Coordinate specialty programming with camp specialists, when applicable, and organize and help to lead age-appropriate, fun and engaging programming
- Develop supply lists based on need
- Provide weekly activity communication
- Lead and organize camper pick-up process
- Create a safe, supportive, stimulating and fun environment for campers
- Always ensure campers’ safety
- Set clear and consistent limits and resolve behavioral problems with assistance from supervisors
- Model appropriate behavior for campers and staff.
- Additional responsibilities as required. Work throughout the spring to plan content, work with specialists and prepare for the summer
- Serve as a member of the camp leadership team
- Help organize and lead staff training.
- Appropriately respond to crisis situations.
- Step-in for staff breaks.
- Experience working with children in grades K - 10, preferably in a camp setting.
- Ability to respond sensitively to diverse groups of children.
- Ability to plan and execute creative activities for children.
- Ability to lead and motivate groups of campers and staff.
- Experience supervising staff.
- Outstanding communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Dedication to and eagerness for working in camp, informal education and youth programs.
- Knowledge of summer camps.
- Ability to work well both in a team environment and independently.
- Enthusiasm, flexibility, and ability to improvise.
- 10 hours per week for prep starting 5/1-5/22
- 37.5 hours per week from 5/26/2026 – 8/21/2026
- Staff Training: June 1,2026-June 5,2026
- Summer Direct Service Hours: June 1 ,2026-August 21,2026
- 8:15am – 4:15pm, Monday – Friday
