Outdoor Education Specialist - Summer Camp 2026

Summer Camp at the JCCSF offers one to three-week sessions in both the traditional day camp and specialty camp settings for campers in grades K-8. Outdoor Ed Camps are in session June 1- August 21. Our classic day camps feature arts & crafts, STEAM projects, and sports. Specialty camps include visual arts, nature exploration, musical theater, science and more.
The Outdoor Education specialist will create, organize, and implement multiple 1–2-week sessions of camp for up to 11 weeks. Outdoor camps are offered for campers in grades 3-5. Campers will be introduced to the world all things nature through hands-on experience and exploration of experiments
The ideal candidate should have strong classroom management skills and must be able to implement a well-rounded STEAM and Outdoor curriculum for youth ages 6 - 11.
- Organize and implement outdoor curriculum for grades 1-5
- Lead and design outdoor curriculum supported by field trips to relevant locations
- Prepare for and deliver 11 weeks of camp programming, including creating supply lists, curriculum development and teaching daily lessons
- Implement an interactive, age-appropriate curriculum
- Support general counselors (when applicable)
- Support camper drop-off and pick-up processes
- Provide excellent customer service to camp families by communicating with them about their camper’s experience
- Set-up camp room and cleanup daily
- Implement daily safety check of relevant equipment.
- Practice personal leadership skills.
- Model appropriate behavior for campers.
- Set clear and consistent limits and resolve behavioral problems with assistance from supervisors.
- Additional responsibilities as required.
- At least 1 year as an educator
- Knowledge and ability to explain and facilitate age-appropriate design and tool use skills for elementary school-aged campers.
- Outstanding communication skills, both written and oral.
- Passions for outdoor projects, informal education and youth programs as well as a passion for natural science.
- Knowledge of summer camps preferred.
- Ability to work well both in a team environment and independently.
- Must have enthusiasm, flexibility, and ability to improvise a must.
- Up to 10 hours per week of prep time (5/1/2026 – 5/31/2026)
- 37.5 hours per week from 6/2/2025 – 8/22/2025
- Summer Direct Service Hours: June 1 ,2026-August 7,2026
- 8:00am – 4:00pm, Monday – Friday
