SALARY RANGE
$145,000 - $150,000 Annually
The Senior Director of Development (SDOD) serves as a strategic, operational, and organizational partner to the Chief Development Officer.
The SDOD ensures the smooth, coordinated functioning of the Development Department and plays a critical leadership role in advancing the JCCSF’s comprehensive capital and endowment campaign and annual campaign. This individual is responsible for operationalizing strategy, driving project management discipline, supervising key team leaders, and ensuring that all campaign and departmental initiatives move forward with clarity, accountability, and excellence.
The SDOD ensures all moving parts of the department, people, systems, timelines, and goals work in concert to advance organizational priorities. This position does not manage a donor portfolio, but works closely with the CDO, CEO, and campaign counsel to support frontline fundraising and ensure seamless coordination across teams.
This position requires significant experience in managing complex projects, coordinating multi-layered teams, and keeping large-scale fundraising efforts running efficiently and on track.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Capital Campaign Leadership & Coordination
  • Serve as the internal project lead for all components of the capital campaign, ensuring milestones, deliverables, and timelines are met.
  • Partner with the CDO to translate campaign strategy into operational plans — including staff assignments, committee management, collateral production, data tracking, and
  • Maintain a comprehensive campaign master calendar, tracking internal and external deadlines, meetings, and key donor engagement milestones.
  • Coordinate across staff and volunteer teams (Campaign Cabinet) to ensure all campaign activities are aligned and executed with precision.
  • Prepare campaign progress reports, dashboards, and updates for the CDO, CEO, and Board leadership.
  • Manage campaign meetings, agendas, follow-ups, and accountability systems to ensure consistent forward motion.
Departmental Leadership & Management
  • Lead and manage the daily internal operations of the Development department, ensuring information flow, staff alignment, and accountability.
  • Supervise department staff, providing guidance, clarity, and feedback to ensure departmental goals are
  • Partner with department directors and CDO on annual and campaign budgets, resource allocation, and financial tracking.
  • Facilitate regular department and cross-functional meetings to monitor progress, identify challenges, and maintain transparency and communication.
Operational Excellence & Systems Management
  • Oversee project management systems, tools, and processes to ensure departmental efficiency and campaign readiness.
  • Partner with the Development operations leadership to ensure data integrity, accurate reporting, and effective use of Salesforce and other platforms.
  • Establish and maintain internal communication and workflow protocols to ensure all staff understand priorities, timelines, and dependencies.
  • Identify and resolve operational bottlenecks before they impact
Cross-Departmental Collaboration
  • Collaborate closely with Finance, Marketing, and Program departments to ensure capital and annual campaigns and all development activities are fully integrated with organizational operations.
  • Support internal and external communications related to capital and annual campaign milestones and announcements.
  • Represent the Development Department on cross-functional initiatives and committees as appropriate.
REQUIREMENTS
  • 8–10 years of progressively responsible experience in nonprofit fundraising or advancement, including significant campaign management (minimum $10M) and operational leadership.
  • Proven track record in project management, process implementation, and cross-team coordination within a complex organization.
  • Experience managing development operations, campaign systems, or special initiatives at a senior level.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills, with the ability to balance strategic thinking and hands-on execution.
  • Collaborative leader with high emotional intelligence, sound judgment, and the ability to motivate and align diverse stakeholders.
  • Proficiency with CRM systems (Salesforce preferred) and project management
  • Familiarity with Jewish community organizations and Jewish culture and traditions a plus
WORKING CONDITIONS
Working conditions are typical of an office environment. Work is mainly performed within a large community center, and involves regular, frequent contact with staff, guests, and visitors. Some remote work may be available, subject to team schedules.

Position requires seated or standing use of a computer throughout the day.
