The JCCSF Summer Camp is now hiring Unit Heads for 2025!

Summer Camp at the JCCSF offers one-week to three-week sessions in traditional day camp and specialty camp settings for campers in grades K-10. Our classic day camps feature arts & crafts, STEAM projects, and sports. Specialty camps include visual arts, nature exploration, musical theater, science and more.

Summer Camp is in session June 2 - August 22, 2025.
Unit Heads supervise the work of summer camp counselors and specialists. The position requires a strong background working with children in a school or camp setting, experience organizing and planning youth programs, and experience supervising camp staff.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Supervise general counselors and specialists
    • Supervision duties include daily meetings, and regular verbal and written evaluations.
  • Coordinate specialty programming with camp specialists, when applicable, and organize and help lead age-appropriate, fun and engaging programming
  • Adhere to budget for supplies and staffing
  • Provide weekly activity communication to campers’ families
  • Lead and organize camper pick-up process
  • Create a safe, supportive, stimulating and fun environment for campers
  • Always ensure campers’ safety
  • Set clear and consistent limits and resolve behavioral problems with assistance from supervisors
  • Model appropriate behavior for campers and staff.
  • Serve as a member of the camp leadership team
  • Help organize and lead staff training.
  • Appropriately respond to crisis situations.
  • Provide coverage during staff breaks.
  • Work part-time hours (specifics TBD) throughout the spring to plan content, work with specialists and prepare for the summer
  • Additional responsibilities as required.
REQUIREMENTS
  • Experience working with children in grades K - 5, preferably in a camp setting.
  • Ability to respond sensitively to diverse groups of children.
  • Ability to plan and execute creative activities for children.
  • Ability to lead and motivate groups of campers and staff.
  • Experience supervising staff.
  • Outstanding communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Dedication to and enthusiasm for working in camp, informal education, and youth programs.
  • Knowledge of summer camps.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment and independently.
  • Enthusiasm, flexibility, and ability to improvise.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Will be working directly with the camp staff as well as youth ages 5-13. Camps take place in a variety of locations, both indoors (classrooms, basketball gym, art studio, catering kitchen) and outdoors (field trips, sports field, playgrounds). Locations are dependent on the level of support each camp needs.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be able to lift equipment/supplies/assorted material of up to 50lbs, with or without assistance. Work entails standing and walking throughout the day.
STATUS
Seasonal, non-exempt, non-benefited position
HOURS
Up to 10 hours per week from 5/1/25 - 5/31/25
37.5 hours per week from 6/2/2025 – 8/22/2025

  • Staff training: June 2,2025-June 6,2025
  • Summer Direct Service Hours: June 9 ,2025-August 8,2025
  • Work hours: 8:15am – 4:15pm, Monday – Friday
