Coaches for The J Soccer Lab are responsible for delivering a high-touch, developmental soccer experience for players in 2nd–7th grade. The program emphasizes technical skill development, small-sided games, and guided decision-making. The Soccer Lab aligns with The J’s mission to help players take ownership of their growth and develop confidence in a challenging but supportive environment.
Schedule
We are hiring reliable part-time staff for 5-10 hours per week to lead soccer practices for for 5-12 year old's on weeknights and to coach games on weekends. The season runs late August – November. Other coaching opportunities may also present themselves.
Pay
- $20-$30 per hour depending on experience
Essential Functions
- Lead and assist in 60-minute Soccer Lab sessions focused on technical skill building, ball mastery, and positional awareness.
- Deliver sessions designed to maximize touches and player engagement.
- Apply guided instructional methods that promote player decision-making, creativity, and problem-solving during play.
- Provide constructive feedback that supports each player’s development and encourages ownership of growth.
- Create a positive and inclusive environment that emphasizes teamwork, respect, and a growth mindset.
- Support players in applying training concepts to game-like scenarios, preparing them for recreational or competitive environments.
- Oversee equipment setup, care, and return for all training sessions.
- Maintain strong communication with parents, other coaches, and the Sports & Recreation Manager ensure alignment with program goals.
- Always represent The J in a professional and positive manner.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Prior coaching experience required; experience with school-aged or competitive-level players strongly preferred.
- Strong understanding of youth soccer development principles, including age-appropriate coaching, small-sided games, and positive communication.
- Ability to demonstrate and explain fundamental soccer skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills.
- U.S. Soccer Grassroots License, “D” License, or equivalent coaching certification preferred.
- Must pass a background check post employment offer.
- Must have reliable transportation.
- Able to work a flexible schedule, including weekends or evenings as required.
Physical Requirements
- Frequent standing/walking/running, eye/hand/foot coordination, talking and hearing to demonstrate and execute skills
- Frequent stooping and bending
- Occasional lifting, carrying and/or drag up to 50 lbs. to move equipment as needed
- Will reach with hands and arms and use hands to feel objects, tools or controls
- Requires vision ability to distinguish the nature of objects using the eye
- Role will be performed indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions, including exposure to the sun and heat or cold
