Coach, The J Minis/Juniors/Futures

Coaches for The J Minis, The J Juniors, and J Futures are responsible for leading and assisting in high-quality youth soccer sessions that introduce and build upon the foundational skills of the game. These programs are part of The J’s Youth Soccer Pathway, which focuses on helping every child fall in love with soccer in a fun, engaging, and supportive environment.
- The J Minis (Ages 3–4): A parent-child and beginner introduction to soccer through fun games, imagination, and movement-based learning.
- The J Juniors (Ages 4–5): A pre-recreational bridge program introducing basic ball mastery, dribbling, and teamwork through guided play.
- The J Futures (Kindergarten–1st Grade): A developmental experience that transitions players toward independent play, structured games, and an understanding of teamwork and fair play.
Pay
$20-30/ 1hr. session, dependent upon experience
Schedule
Session typically occur on Sundays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.
Essential Functions
- Lead and assist with 35–50 minute sessions using The J’s early childhood curriculum, ensuring a fun, safe, and engaging environment for every child.
- Take a child-centered approach, encouraging exploration, imagination, and confidence through positive coaching and guided discovery.
- Deliver sessions that balance skill development and active play, introducing dribbling, coordination, balance, and teamwork.
- Foster a welcoming environment that supports players’ emotional and social development through encouragement, patience, and enthusiasm.
- Ensure all activities promote The J’s core values of respect, integrity, effort, teamwork, and growth.
- Communicate effectively with parents and guardians regarding session expectations, player progress, and upcoming events.
- Oversee all equipment setup, care, and return at the end of each session.
- Model professionalism, reliability, and positive sportsmanship while representing The J on and off the field.
- Perform other duties assigned by the Sports & Recreation Department.
- Prior coaching or teaching experience preferred, particularly with early childhood or elementary-aged children.
- Ability to connect with young children and create a playful, energetic environment.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with both children and parents.
- Ability to lead small groups confidently and maintain a safe, organized environment.
- U.S. Soccer Grassroots License or equivalent youth coaching certification preferred but not required.
- Must pass a background check post employment offer and maintain current CPR/First Aid certification (training provided if necessary).
- Must have reliable transportation.
- Able to work a flexible schedule, including weekends or evenings as required.
Physical Requirements
- Frequent standing/walking/running, eye/hand/foot coordination, talking and hearing to demonstrate and execute skills
- Frequent stooping and bending
- Occasional lifting, carrying and/or drag up to 25 lbs. to move equipment as needed
- Will reach with hands and arms and use hands to feel objects, tools or controls
- Requires vision ability to distinguish the nature of objects using the eye
- Role will be performed indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions, including exposure to the sun and heat or cold
