SUMMARY:

The J Camps Baltimore Team is seeking a passionate leader to serve as the Assistant Sports Camp Director. Under the leadership of the Sports Camp Director, this position will help manage the day to day operations of sports camp as well as serve as the lead specialists for the camp. This will include, teaching the athletics curriculum, coordinating special events, and serving as the main contact for the Kickstarter groups.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Facilitate the sports camp curriculum focusing on athletics for 1st – 6th grade.
    • Help plan activities and events that are exciting, challenging and value based.
  • Work with staff on teaching and leading sport specific activities.
    • Assign staff roles for each sport
    • Give the staff tools to lead sports when they are assigned to an activity
    • Supported by the Sports Camp Director, give feedback to staff on performance.
  • Assist in overall staff orientation planning. Plan and implement Sports Camp specific staff orientation with Sports Camp Director.
  • Oversee Kickstarter groups on days AAA and JV are on field trips.
  • Work with Sports Camp Director to take inventory of sports supplies.
  • Work cooperatively with camp leadership, counselors, and other departments.
  • Serve as lead staff during pool coverage and have assigned duty during morning and afternoon transportation.
  • Provide bunk coverage if a counselor is out.
  • Keep immediate supervisor informed daily of any concerns or problems concerning campers and facilities.
  • Be a consistent role model for campers.
  • Maintain high standards of safety and cleanliness in all sports areas (indoor and outdoor).
  • Conduct routine maintenance and housekeeping checks on all sports facilities and equipment.
  • Ensure that facility is kept clean and safe, so that children are in a safe and comfortable environment.
    • Set-up any fields or outdoor areas for daily athletic activities.
  • Ensure that campers know and follow safety procedures during camp programs.
  • Take on other duties as assigned in the event that the Sport Camp Director is absent.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE HAS:

  • Experience at summer camp or similar environment preferred.

Understanding the developmental needs of youth and the ability to foster positive relationships with both youth and adults.

  • Demonstrateability to follow instructions, collaborate as a team member, and lead when necessary.
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills.
  • Willingness to ask for assistance when needed or desired.
  • Ability to work in an outdoor setting.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to relate to individuals in a positive and supportive manner

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be 21 years of age or older.
  • Previous Experience teaching sports.
  • Previous experience working with children in a camp or recreations setting is preferred.

PHYSICAL SKILLS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to spend time sitting and using a computer, laptop or phone. The employee may also be required to frequently be on their feet for long periods of time. The employee will be required to be outside for extended periods of time and must be able to sustain time walking in hot temperatures.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

The work environment may be fast paced and requires high energy and interaction with others. The workspace may be noisy, at times.
