SUMMARY:
The Rosenbloom Owings Mills JCC Children’s Theatre Production Company (CTPC) is seeking a Costume Assistant for the upcoming 2025/2026 fiscal year. CTPC is seeking a detail-oriented and enthusiastic Costume Assistant to support the costume department throughout the pre-production, rehearsal, and performance phases of our upcoming production(s). The Costume Assistant will work closely with the Costume Designer and other team members to help bring the creative vision to life, while ensuring efficiency, organization, and professionalism in the costume area.

Will be supervised by and work closely with the director of youth arts education. Experience and a love for teaching children of all ages, as well as extensive experience in their art form, is imperative. Submissions with musical directing, performance, and/or teaching reels is highly preferred.
COMMITMENT:
September 2025-February 2026. Must attend necessary production meetings as well as tech week rehearsals, shows, and strike for each production. Looking to costume assistant for the duration of CTPC JR & CTPC Teen’s main stage musical production of Something Rotten Jr. (grades 3rd - 10th ), as well as CTPC Kids performance of Finding Nemo Kids (grades 1st – 2nd ). Upon completion of this session and evaluation from the supervisor, will then discuss future employment and availability.
WHAT YOU WILL DO:
- Assisting with costume fittings, alterations, and organization.
- Helping source, pull, or shop for costume pieces and accessories.
- Labeling, organizing, and maintaining costumes and wardrobe area.
- Providing backstage support during tech rehearsals and performances.
- Assisting with laundry, costume repairs, and quick changes as needed.
- Documenting costume notes, tracking changes, and updating wardrobe paperwork.
- Maintaining a clean, safe, and organized costume workspace.
- Communicating effectively with the costume team, cast, and stage management
- Must attend all production meetings, special events, and trainings required.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
JCC REQUIREMENTS:
- Providing CTPC/JCC must provide proof or willingness to get:
- Background-checked with fingerprints on file.
- Trained in preventing and detecting child abuse and reporting protocols.
- Completed and updated health forms on file with JCC/CTPC.
- Responsible for understanding all safety procedures of the J and could lead the participants in the event of an emergency.
- Adhere to the dress code requirements as well as always meet all JCC standards forth professionalism in conduct and appearance; Instructor agrees to wear appropriate clothing and shoes for the class. Must wear JCC issued nametag or name badge.
WHO YOU ARE:
- Previous experience in costumes, fashion, or theater preferred.
- Basic sewing, alteration, or garment care knowledge is a requirement.
- Strong organizational and communication skills, a willingness to collaborate with peers and colleagues, enjoys working on a team, and can be flexible.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, collaborative environment
- Flexible availability for rehearsals, fittings, and performance dates.
- Ability to lift/carry costume bins or supplies as needed
- Excels in classroom management; commands a room but remains patient and ever inclusive to all students as per the JCC and CTPC values.
- Ability to communicate effectively with the artistic team.
