JCCA’s mission is to provide the highest quality child welfare and mental health services to New York’s neediest and most vulnerable children and families to ensure that their safety, permanency and well-being leads to a life of stability and promise.

Our programs include foster and residential care, educational assistance and remediation, case management for young people with mental health challenges and services to families to prevent child abuse and maltreatment. JCCA offers safety, stability and lifesaving support to help our clients transform their lives. JCCA programs help more than 17,000 children and families annually.

Position Summary:

JCCA is seeking a dynamic, enthusiastic Director of Marketing and Communications to develop and implement the organization's marketing, communications and public relations strategy. They will lead efforts to increase brand awareness, community engagement and visibility to support continued mission growth. The Director of Marketing and Communications will collaborate with the Chief Development and Communications Officer (CDCO) to create and execute comprehensive marketing strategies across digital and traditional channels and curate inspiring narratives that resonate with our stakeholders and supporters.

Responsibilities:

  • In collaboration with the CDCO Develop and execute a comprehensive marketing, communications, and public relations strategy in partnership with the CDCO, aligning efforts with JCCA’s mission, vision, and strategic goals.
  • Lead JCCA’s digital marketing strategy, overseeing website management, social media channels, email newsletters, and all online engagement efforts. Partner with the CDCO to drive a major 18–24 month intranet and website refresh.
  • Guide the agency’s editorial vision, managing the creation, production, and distribution of all publications and storytelling materials.
  • Develop compelling, mission-driven content for digital platforms to elevate JCCA’s visibility, strengthen brand consistency, and deepen engagement with stakeholders.
  • As part of the External Affairs team, collaborate closely with Development to support fundraising campaigns, events, and donor engagement through high-impact digital and print collateral.
  • Work in partnership with Government Relations to craft effective advocacy communications and produce materials that advance key legislative and policy priorities.
  • Enhance internal communications by designing strategies and channels that keep staff informed, connected, and engaged across the organization.
  • Serve as the primary liaison to JCCA’s external public relations firm, coordinating media requests and supporting proactive press outreach.
  • Collaborate with external partners to maintain and execute a crisis communications plan, ensuring timely, clear response during sensitive or emergency situations.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a small, high-performing communications team, setting clear goals, expectations, and timelines that support professional growth and strong results.
  • Establish and track metrics and KPIs to measure the impact of marketing and communications initiatives; use data insights to refine future strategies.
  • Partner across departments to align messaging, coordinate campaigns, and support organization-wide initiatives.
  • Build strategic partnerships with organizations, businesses, and influencers to expand JCCA’s reach and amplify its impact.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in communications or public relations, including progressive leadership responsibility—ideally within a nonprofit or mission-driven organization.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Proven success in developing and executing integrated marketing and communications strategies.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft clear, compelling messages for diverse audiences.
  • Strong experience in media relations, including managing press inquiries and building relationships with journalists and influencers.
  • Proficiency with digital communications platforms, social media tools, and analytics.
  • Experience creating fundraising and advocacy communications in partnership with development and government relations teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with culturally and professionally diverse teams.
  • Technical expertise with WordPress, Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Microsoft 365, and other digital marketing tools.
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills, with the ability to collaborate across departments and with external partners.
  • Proven leadership skills, including managing, mentoring, and developing high-performing teams.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines, work well under pressure, and adapt in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience with video production and editing is a plus.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in communications, public relations or related field is preferred

Salary: $115K - $125K
