Position Summary: The Campus Recreation Coordinator is responsible for planning, implementing, supervising, and evaluating therapeutic recreation programs across the Residential Campus. This role balances direct service to youth with staff supervision and program management. The Coordinator ensures that recreation programming is trauma-informed, inclusive, and aligned with treatment goals while creating opportunities that foster growth, engagement, and enrichment. The Coordinator provides leadership to recreation staff, manages day-to-day program operations, and actively facilitates recreation activities, ensuring youth benefit from high-quality, structured, and therapeutic experiences.
Responsibilities:
Lead the design and implementation of seasonal recreation cycles with input from youth, staff, and interdisciplinary teams.
Develop and distribute program materials (calendars, flyers, newsletters) using Canva and other tools.
Ensure all programming is developmentally appropriate, therapeutic, and culturally responsive.
Coordinate special events, holiday programming, and community outings to expand enrichment opportunities.
Facilitate therapeutic recreation activities and structured groups in areas such as sports, arts, fitness, clubs, and wellness.
Provide push-in and check-in support across cottages and program areas to increase youth engagement.
Model trauma-informed and strengths-based approaches in direct work with youth.
Support youth in building social, emotional, and recreational skills through consistent participation in programming.
Supervise and train Recreation personnel.
Assign responsibilities, monitor performance, and provide feedback through regular supervision.
Lead team meetings and support professional development for recreation staff.
Foster a collaborative, youth-centered culture that emphasizes creativity, consistency, and accountability.
Support recruitment, onboarding, and orientation of new staff.
Maintain accurate documentation, including attendance records, progress notes, and program evaluations.
Review and approve staff documentation to ensure accuracy, quality, and compliance.
Manage recreation vehicles, including scheduling, staff usage, and safety compliance.
Oversee inventory, ordering, and management of recreation supplies and equipment.
Monitor and ensure recreation spaces are safe, organized, and accessible for all youth.
Assist with budget tracking and contribute to department-wide initiatives and event
Work closely with IDT personnel to align recreation with treatment and care plans.
Build partnerships with external organizations, volunteers, and community partners to enhance programming.

Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Therapeutic Recreation, Recreation Management, Human Services, or related field required; Master’s degree preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience in therapeutic recreation, youth development, or a related field, including at least 1–2 years of supervisory experience.
- Leadership skills with the ability to supervise, coach, and motivate staff.
- Demonstrated ability to balance direct youth engagement with administrative and supervisory duties.
- Skilled in documentation, program evaluation, and data-informed decision-making.
- Proficiency in Canva, Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook), and database systems.
Strong organizational, time management, and communication skills.
- Knowledge of trauma-informed care, positive youth development, and therapeutic recreation practices.
- Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
- Valid NY, NJ, or CT driver’s license required.
- Must successfully complete Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) training.
Schedule Monday - Friday, rotating Sundays (35-hours per wee)
Salary $66,300
