POSITION SUMMARY:
The Medical Assistant performs administrative and clinical tasks to keep the Health Center operating optimally and per ACS guidelines. The Medical Assistant provides outstanding customer service as their interaction with the patient is an integral aspect of patient’s clinic experience.
ESSENTIAL TASKS:
- Obtain vital signs, recognize values out of normal range, and report abnormal findings to the RN, LPN or provider
- Perform phlebotomy; collect specimens (urine, throat swabs, etc.)
- Perform diagnostic testing including electrocardiograms, point of care testing, hearing and vision screening
- Occasionally accompany a client to an appointment in the community
- Assess youth for signs and symptoms of abuse, complete body grams
- Schedule external appointments and track follow appointments if needed.
- Works closely with Medical Drivers to coordinate transportation of residents.
- Act as the liaison for the Dental Van, and coordinate the dental clinic when on site.
- Check status of insurance when needed.
- Discharge charts after final discharge from agency
- Keep up to date progress notes for each youth documenting their care while on campus
- Write reports, correspondence and track data by using Microsoft Word, Excel and MyEvolv
- File/scan medical forms and documents received in medical charts,
- Support chart review to improve compliance
- Fill out forms such as WIC, School, Camp, Work and others as needed, check labs as they are faxed to us and distribute as directed, attend SPRs as 3rd party reviewer, complete HIPS forms.
QUALIFICAITONS:
High School Diploma or GED
Graduate from a Medical Assistant program with certification
Proficient using MS Word and Excel
American Heart Association Basic Life support (BLS)
Excellent customer service skills
SALARY:
$24 per hour
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Be able to walk, stand, and move, for a large part of the day. The medical assistant should be able to manipulate equipment, as well as lift and move objects, equipment and supplies. It is reasonable to anticipate lifting 20-25 pounds. The medical assistant may be expected to have sufficient manual dexterity in order to safely perform various skills and techniques. While performing the duties of this job, the medical assistant is regularly required to stand and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to use hands to, handle, or feel; and reach forward with hands and arms. The employee is required to sit and stoop, kneel, or crouch.
