Position Summary:

The Medical Coordinator plays a pivotal role in managing the medical needs of children within the Long-Term Foster Care program for Unaccompanied Children (UC). The Coordinator will work closely with the UC Nurse(s) to ensure appropriateness and compliance with the medical and clinical service needs of all of the minors. The Coordinator serves as a central point of contact for medical coordination, facilitating communication between internal staff, community medical providers, and insurance companies to ensure seamless healthcare delivery.

Responsibilities

Administrative:

  • Submit Treatment Authorization Requests to Point Comfort Underwriters Insurance and coordinate with the insurance to secure approvals for necessary medical treatments

  • Identify and outreach to community providers who can work with Point Comfort Underwriters Insurance, periodically traveling to provider facilities

  • Help to maintain database of the children’s medical appointments, medications, follow-ups, referrals, etc.

  • Ensure documentation and filing compliance with all required forms in accordance with the agency, state licensing, and ORR

  • Work closely with JCCA staff (Nurse, Case Manager, Clinician, etc.) to facilitate timely referrals, follow-up care, and ensure continuity of care for minors

  • Security and ensuring confidentiality of sensitive information

  • Other administrative duties as assigned

Clinical:

  • Obtain vital signs, recognize values out of normal range, and report abnormal findings to the Nurse or provider

  • Perform phlebotomy; collect specimens (urine, throat swabs, etc.)

  • Perform diagnostic testing including electrocardiograms, point of care testing, hearing and vision screening

  • Other clinical duties as assigned within scope of medical assistant role

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma required; Graduate of NYS approved school for Medical Assistant Certification; Associate’s Degree preferred.

  • A minimum of one-year employment experience working with children and/or adolescents in a social service setting

  • A minimum of one-year employment experience working with medical providers

  • Must be able to pass all required pre-employment screenings per ORR contractual agreement

  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with client and teams that are culturally and professionally diverse.

  • Computer Literacy (specifically Microsoft Word, Excel). Ability to learn new technology platforms

  • Solid organizational and follow up skills

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to communicate effectively with staff and clients

  • Bilingual English/Spanish a PLUS

Pay Rate: $30.22 per hour
