Position Summary:

The Program Supervisor- Career, Education and Transitional Services oversees Career & Youth Development Specialists, Education Specialists (Middle School, College & High School Specialists, and Tutoring) and Housing Specialists. This role requires collaboration with a multidisciplinary team in addition to community partners and external liaisons to facilitate and coordinate career exploration and youth development, provide educational support and assist with post-secondary planning, and apply and obtain housing for all eligible youth. The Program Supervisor- Career, Education and Transitional Services will provide guidance and oversight to the team of specialists who will support the IL/PYA endeavors of the population of youth ages 11-26.

Responsibilities:

  • Directly supervises Education, Career and Housing Specialists within the LEAP Division.
  • Ensure specialists complete progress notes after delivery of every service as required within 48 hours.
  • Review progress notes for accuracy, content and goal progression
  • Provide ongoing and timely supervision to a caseload of specialists individually and in monthly meetings
  • Effectively monitor specialists for compliance with qualifications, trainings and service delivery
  • Complete staff evaluations in a timely manner and initiate appropriate corrective action to address performance concerns
  • Support educational team with advocating for young people’s needs in various educational meetings; including but not limited to FTC’s, permanency planning meetings, school based CSE meetings and ACCES-VR utilization reviews, especially those who are aging out of foster care, suspension meetings and re-entry meetings.
  • Develop and analyze tracking systems for Education, transitional and vocational data
  • Support specialists with the transitional process for youth (i.e- Transitional Medicaid, Supervision to 21, ACS Special Grant) etc
  • Develop partnerships, resources, and referrals systems to connect clients with academic, employment and training resources
  • Ensure workshops are held and youth are working towards identified PYA goals
  • Maintain awareness of new trends and development in social services and related fields
  • Attend and present at community meetings, school district meetings, etc.
  • Support specialists in identifying and researching potential colleges in line with their interests, preferences and performance; write effective college essays, complete applications, and research and apply for financial aid and scholarships.
  • Work in tandem with the NYCDOE and Advocates for Children to ensure education success of youth.
  • Participate in the planning and execution of all audits and reports needed for funders and regulators.
  • Communicates and work collaboratively with JCCA foster care and outside child welfare organization support staff
  • Follow all necessary program requirements in terms of case management, data collection and reporting as outlined by the Fair Futures/PYA mandates
  • Develop and implement training programs for new hires and existing employees
  • Meet on a regular basis with the LEAP leadership to discuss program updates/accomplishments and administrative matters.
  • Performs other duties as needed

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in human services or related field
  • Minimum one year of supervisory experience in direct service delivery with the ability to effectively delegate tasks and responsibilities.
  • Previous experience working in foster care; residential services experience is preferred
  • Previous experience in facilitating group vocational/educational workshops.
  • Previous experience working in an education setting within a community-based organization is preferred.

  • Demonstrated strong writing skills without grammatical errors; must have Strong verbal communication skills
  • In-depth knowledge of the Foster Care system and New York City Child Welfare system
  • Knowledge of community resources related to transitional services.
  • Knowledge of Department of Education enrollment pathways is preferred
  • Demonstrated therapeutic and crisis intervention skills; ability to de-escalate situations with calmness, professionalism, sensitivity, and within ethical boundaries
  • An understanding of the impacts of institutional and structural racism on the child welfare system and in disadvantaged communities
  • Ability to plan, assign, and direct subordinate personnel in a manner conducive to productive performance
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with teams and clients that are culturally and professionally diverse.
  • Proficient with MS Office with the ability to learn new technology platforms;
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to communicate and interact effectively at all levels of the organization

Salary - $70K annually
