Position Overview

The Adult Pottery Teacher will lead engaging and educational 10- week pottery wheel classes for adult students of varying experience levels. This instructor will provide hands-on instruction in wheel-throwing techniques, surface decoration, glazing, and firing processes, while fostering a supportive and creative studio environment.

Schedule Monday -Thursday 6:30pm - 7:30pm

Responsibilities

  • Teach adult pottery classes focused on wheel-throwing techniques, including centering, pulling, trimming, and finishing.
  • Offer demonstrations and individualized instruction tailored to each student’s skill level.
  • Oversee proper use and maintenance of pottery wheels, tools, and studio equipment.
  • Prepare materials and ensure the classroom is clean, organized, and ready for each session.
  • Monitor student progress and provide constructive feedback to encourage artistic growth.
  • Manage the glazing and firing process, ensuring safe kiln operation.
  • Promote a welcoming, inclusive environment that encourages creativity and exploration.
  • Assist with class promotion, student communications, and studio policies as needed.

Qualifications

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience in wheel-throwing and ceramic arts.
  • Prior teaching experience (formal or informal) with adult learners preferred.
  • Strong communication, organization, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to foster a positive, inclusive, and encouraging classroom environment.
  • Knowledge of ceramic materials, glazes, and kiln operation.
