Background:

The Jewish Alliance of Greater Rhode Island, located in Providence's beautiful East Side, provides its members with quality educational and social programs and services, has a beautiful fitness facility, and a thriving aquatic community. Including a RIMA and USA Swim certified competitive swim team.

Job Description:
The Lifeguard should be a motivated team player comfortable working in a structured environment. Our members provide our community fitness center with a dedicated clientele, and we encourage a strong customer service focus in our team. This position is looking to fill Monday-Friday 6:15am-3:00pm and/or 3:00-8:00pm with occasional weekends required.

Position responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Enforce all pool rules and Jewish Alliance policies
  • Maintain a consistent work schedule where you always exceed member expectations
  • Actively participate in meetings and training programs including in-service training
  • Maintain current Red Cross Lifeguard Training and CPR/AED certification
  • Assist in the maintenance and cleanliness of the aquatics center
  • Notify Aquatic Director of any accidents, rescues, problems, or equipment in need of repair
  • Understand and anticipate the needs of members; be attentive, respectful and listen
  • Maintain a clean, safe work environment

Qualifications

Qualified candidates will possess the following skills, abilities, and experience:

  • Current certifications in lifeguarding, CPR for the professional rescuer, first aid, and AED
  • Proficient swimming ability – need to swim at least 300 yards non-stop under 8 minutes
  • Ability to properly extract victims from the water to the pool deck
  • Attentiveness to visual and audible cues for recognition and identification of swimmers in distress or in process of unsafe behaviors
  • Mobility around and in the pool
  • Excellent communication and positive engagement with employees, members and guests
  • Enthusiastic, friendly attitude and professional appearance
  • Reliable team player with the ability to work under pressure and multitask
  • A flexible schedule and the ability to work evenings, weekends and holidays
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time
  • Water Safety Instructor Certification (Preferred not required)
