Description

Summary of Job Description:

The Assistant Teacher, Infant Room will provide support to classrooms and assist the teachers in reinforcing materials and lessons covered to facilitate student learning. They will help to plan and execute appropriate activities and work collaboratively as part of the ECC team.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Support Lead Infant Teacher with all responsibilities of the day-to-day programming including classroom instruction, activities, lessons, and classroom management.

  • Take direction and give support in preparing the classroom including setting up centers, preparing needed materials and supplies, and carrying out activities

  • Work with children, individually and in small groups to provide care, protection, and guidance

  • Provide a positive and nurturing environment for children and families.

  • Foster relationships with families and maintain privacy of families and children.

  • Assist in the room maintenance to keep the classroom and center safe, clean, attractive, and in compliance with health and safety requirements.

  • Participate in school social and family education programs and meetings, as well as larger organizational programs and trainings, as needed, including monthly staff meetings.

  • Escorts students to other areas of the school such as the cafeteria, playground, gym, or other classrooms; monitors their behavior during recess and lunchtime.

  • Assists with student drop-off and pickup.

  • Occasionally works as a substitute teacher.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience with the Alliance’s core values and a clear commitment to them
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community
  • Working knowledge of the growth and development of young children and ability to utilize this information in the classroom
  • Strong written and oral communications skills
  • Ability to set priorities and handle multiple projects.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Enthusiastic and self-motivated individual who is comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, including occasional nights and weekends
  • Ability to work closely with others in a team environment and effectively interact with all levels of management, parents and volunteers
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Must have or willingness to obtain Pediatric First Aid and CPR certification
  • High School Diploma
  • Prior experience teaching in an infant classroom required
  • Judaic knowledge or willingness to acquire
  • Understanding of Rhode Island Early Learning Standards, DHS, BrightStars, and NAEYC, or willingness to acquire
  • Pass criminal background check and TB (Tuberculosis) test clearance dated within the last 6 months
