About Jewfolk, Inc.:

We are a small, dynamic nonprofit organization whose work sits at the intersection of local Jewish journalism, relational engagement, and community connection, reaching tens of thousands of Jewish adults who are often underserved by traditional institutions. Our team is passionate about connecting past and present by telling the stories of our communities today. We are based in the Twin Cities and currently operate in Cincinnati with plans for additional expansion communities.

Job Summary:

Jewfolk, Inc. is seeking a dynamic, entrepreneurial journalist to serve as our Audience Growth & Engagement Editor, helping expand and deepen our reach across both the Twin Cities and Cincinnati. This is not a traditional reporting role; it’s an opportunity to shape how stories are told, shared, and experienced within Jewish communities.

In this full-time position, you’ll create compelling, community-centered journalism while also owning the strategies that grow our audience and turn readers into engaged participants. You’ll work across platforms – from SEO and email to social and emerging channels – experimenting, analyzing, and refining how we connect with people in meaningful ways.

The Challenge

This role is designed for someone who sees journalism as just the starting point. While strong reporting instincts and storytelling skills are essential, success in this position comes from thinking beyond the article – toward how stories live, travel, and build connection.

At Jewfolk, we operate as a lean, fast-moving nonprofit grounded in the belief that independent journalism fuels vibrant, connected communities. With strong foundations in the Twin Cities and Cincinnati, we’re ready for our next phase of growth and we’re looking for someone who is excited to experiment, take initiative, and help shape how our work reaches and resonates with more people in 2026 and beyond.

Why This Role?
  • Total Creative Ownership: You won’t just “write articles.” You will experiment with new mediums – from TikTok-style news bites to deep-dive investigative threads and interactive email strategies.
  • Data-Driven Freedom: We give you the tools (and the analytics) to see what works. If you have a wild idea that the data supports, you will have the green light to run with it.
  • Be the Face of the Brand: You’ll be on the ground, representing Jewfolk at events and building real relationships within the Jewish community.
  • Radical Flexibility: We care about your output and your impact, not just your hours at a desk.
What You’ll Own
  • The Narrative: Collaborate with the EIC to identify the “stories under the story” that others are missing.
  • The Platform Strategy: Own our SEO and social ecosystem. Your goal is not just posting links; you’re building a community-led funnel that turns casual readers into loyal advocates.
  • Growth Experiments: Partner with the team to pilot new audience acquisition tactics. You’ll be our “R&D” wing for digital engagement.
  • Visual Storytelling: Use human-centered design to ensure our journalism is as beautiful as it is impactful.
Are You the One?
  • You’re a Self-Starter: You don’t wait for an assignment. You see a gap in the coverage and you fill it.
  • You’re a Hybrid: You have the “old school” journalistic ethics and writing chops, but the “new school” obsession with SEO, UX, and social trends.
  • You’re Curious: You ask “Why?” and “What if?” more than “How many words?”

Experience:

  • 3+ years in a newsroom or digital media environment where you can point to something you built from scratch.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and verbal communication skills in a deadline-driven and accuracy-based environment
  • An understanding of social media trends and strategies to convert engagement into action
  • Curious, organized, and proactive, with consistent follow-through
  • Comfortable using data and digital tools (Google Analytics, SEO, CMS)
  • Understanding of how to build community — online or in person — and listen to audience needs
  • Familiarity with Jewish culture, news, and community life and excited to reflect that in your work
  • Strong organizational, time management, and relationship-building skills

Bonus if you have:

  • Experience managing content calendars and coordinating freelance contributors
  • Skills in visual media, newsletters, or digital events (e.g., Instagram Live)
  • Knowledge of AI tools to streamline digital workflows (not for content generation)
  • Proficiency with online tools (Google Workplace, WordPress, Mailchimp, Airtable, HubSpot, Canva, etc.)

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or a related field or equivalent experience
  • While the role primarily works remotely, the candidate must reside in the Minneapolis/St. Paul or Cincinnati metro area with strong preference for Twin Cities in order to cover newsworthy events.

This position reports to the Editor-in-Chief.

Salary:

$45,000–$55,000 + Benefits

Interested candidates must send a resume, 2 writing samples or link to portfolio, and a brief cover letter explaining their qualifications and interest in the position to lonny@jewfolk.com by May 1, 2026 for consideration.
